Job description

We are seeking a passionate and self-motivated Animal Technician who holds a Personal Home Office license to join the British Heart Foundation Laboratory of Cardiovascular Medicine. The successful candidate will be working in the group of Professor Mallat, within the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge. The group focuses on the regulation of atherosclerosis by inflammation and the immune system.

You will provide support to researchers within the Mallat Laboratory, primarily funded by the British Heart Foundation.

As a highly motivated individual you will be required to support the lab with in vivo techniques, colony maintenance and laboratory work, however the successful candidate is not expected to enter with the full range of skills as we offer full training and support. You will attain skills in animal experiments and laboratory work, such as dosing, blood sampling, surgical techniques, imaging, tissue dissection and genotyping/PCR. You would also be compiling Home Office Returns numbers for the group. In addition, you will undertake general laboratory administration, record keeping, and maintenance duties associated with the project.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 1 January 2027 in the first instance.
