Job description
The Rape & Sexual Abuse Support Service (RSASS) offer counselling, advice and support to individuals who have been affected by or suffer the physical, mental and emotional distress of sexual abuse, sexual violence.
What will you be doing?
RSASS will give you the tools and support to create a service you are proud to be part of and we will help you thrive in your chosen volunteer role:
- Main Responsibilities: To provide counselling to survivors of rape and sexual abuse in line with the related policies and procedures. Maintain appropriate records in line with the organisation's guidelines. Ensure personal development of professional practice. Maintain professional membership and insurance. Ensure that monitoring and feedback are maintained as part of the ongoing sustainability of the service. Participate in regular supervision in line with guidelines. Undertake risk and need assessments when required.
- Admin Responsibilities: Manage an agreed client caseload. Maintain and record counselling notes for clients in line with RSASS Policies. Contribute to the development of service policies, protocols, guidelines, and strategies within the area of practice, as necessary.
- General Responsibilities: Be familiar with all aspects of the work of RSASS. Work flexibly as a member of the team and be responsive to changing needs. Be willing to undertake relevant training as required. Maintain agreed levels of confidentiality.
What are we looking
for?
- The counsellor is expected to work within the RSASS guidelines and have high standards of practice.
- The need to respect confidentiality is paramount, as is a mature and flexible approach to the work. All counsellors must have fully completed the RSASS training programme before counselling any clients.
- Complete one helpline session as part of your induction.
- Attend monthly supervision at an agreed time.
- Attend professional development training sessions as required (usually 3 per year).
- At least 80 hours of counselling experience
- Show good time management and professional boundaries.
- Complete paperwork appropriately and entre records on our electronic database.

In England and Wales, a person experiences rape or sexual assault every 5 minutes . We provide a free, confidential service to victims of rape and sexual violence across Buckinghamshire. Our services range from support work to one-to-one counselling to help men and women heal from their experiences. You can be a part of this healing process by providing emotional support and being an active listener to our service users. In return, you will receive continuous training in supporting victims of rape and sexual violence. You will also have the opportunity to be a part of a dedicated team to support you at RSASS.
