IBB’s Real Estate group covers a range of development and commercial property work with a number of partners ranked as leaders in their field. The group is divided into five teams:
- The residential development division comprising three partners, two legal directors two consultants, one senior associate, three solicitors, one paralegal and four legal administrators.
- The new homes division comprising one partner, one senior associate, one chartered legal executive, four conveyancers, five paralegals and six legal administrators.
- The commercial real estate division includes a specialist commercial development team comprising two partners, one senior associate, four solicitors, one paralegal and a legal administrator.
The property litigation team comprising two partners, one senior associate and two solicitors. The construction team comprising two partners, one consultant, one senior associate, one solicitor and a legal administrator.
To provide a high-quality service to clients on all aspects concerning residential development and mixed-use schemes. To ensure an exemplary level of client care is provided whilst establishing trust and confidence both internally and externally. To demonstrate strong financial management, commercial awareness and professionalism at all times.
You will work closely with all members of the Residential Development team, other members of the Real Estate Group and the wider firm, where required. The role is part assisting, part running your own caseload as well as dealing with demanding client schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide a high-quality legal service to clients on all aspects of the development of land. This will be by way of assistance with the acquisition and disposal of sites for residential and mixed-use development (whether immediate or strategic). This will include advising on restrictive covenants, easements, affordable housing, leases, planning, highway agreements and agreements for supply of services.
- Ensuring files are maintained properly and that matters are progressed in line with the firm’s standard up to and including billing and file closing including:
- Maintaining good file management and ensuring file opening and closing is carried out in line with IBB procedures, Office Manual and regulatory requirements.
- Where appropriate, complying with the CQS scheme and UK Finance Mortgage Lender’s Handbook requirements as varied from time to time.
- Preparing bills and statements of accounts in accordance with IBB procedures. Collecting and distributing client and office funds in accordance with IBB procedures.
- Complying with the Office Manual and immediately reporting to a partner on any areas of concern or risk to the client and/or firm.
- Ensuring all chargeable work is properly recorded on client matters.
- Adhering to the Law Society’s client care directive and the firm’s own policies as set out in the Office Manual.
- Developing innovative ways to achieve competitive advantage and profitability by working with all the Real Estate Group partners where appropriate to explore opportunities to improve process, communication and speed of service delivery.
- Ensure you are well organised and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills so that work is prioritised and progressed as efficiently as possible; your Team Leader and the partners in the Real Estate Group are sufficiently aware of your workload and specific issues and you maintain a flexible and proactive approach to work.
- Start to build your own network and profile by assisting the team in its marketing objectives, to include activities such as attending client events and assisting the partners in organising client events.
- Establish and maintain contact with relevant third parties and ensure good working relationships with referrers and other external contacts.
- Optimise the use of technology and applications to make the client experience as smooth and efficient as possible.
- Remain professionally and technically up to date by participating in learning and development activities and recording CPD, as well as developing knowledge of the market place and client base.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Strong academics: educated to degree level (with at least a 2:1) and a strong LPC pass (or equivalent) and hold a clean practising certificate from the SRA
Skills and Experiences
- Indicatively, 2 - 4 years post qualification experience in this area of legal work
- At ease and confident working on your own caseload and acting on a transaction from start to finish, on your own or as part of a team as appropriate.
- Experience of delegating work and managing monitoring systems with the ability to provide supervision and support, where appropriate.
- IT literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint and self-sufficient in using document management systems and the internet as a business tool.
- Able to take a flexible approach and work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality standards and attention to detail.
- Ability to demonstrate business development skills.
