Job Description and Qualifications
An opportunity has arisen in the European Electrical Engineering Operations Department for a
Senior Electrical Engineer based on one of our facilities in Europe. Collaborating with the European Electrical Manager Production, the position encompasses all functional aspects of electrical work on operating plants. You will provide technical guidance and support to electrical engineers, designers, technicians, and contractors. Also, you will be required to provide support for breakdown, commissioning, maintenance, and installation activities.
The main tasks and responsibilities will include: Project related - Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager and leading the electrical scope of work on a range of proposals and projects executed in the EMEAI region.
- Translating electrical design intention across disciplines during implementation phase and managing interfaces.
- The provision of engineering specifications, evaluate quotations, perform technical bid evaluations & vendor document review, and validate factory acceptance testing related to the procurement of Electrical equipment and system components.
- Provide electrical engineering expertise by taking ownership for our operating plants to ensure that the equipment is installed, operated and maintained correctly.
- Assigning tasks to the Electrical contractors, providing supervision and technical expertise to ensure delivery against time and quality constraints.
- Execute on basic and/or detail engineering & design packages – small power and lighting design, electrical distribution system design, switchgear, auxiliary system design, , setting calculations, incident investigation etc.
- Take responsibility for technical quality and sound engineering on projects with strong knowledge and mastery of industrial gas and other industry design specifications, standards, legislation, and international best practices.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary engineering activities and ensure close cooperation with other engineering teams.
- Review and sign off designs including compliance certificates on completion of construction and commissioning activities.
- Create FAT plans, procedures, and specifications for a diverse range of electrical equipment.
- Perform FATs in accordance with predefined FAT plans procedures and specifications including creating FAT reports upon completion.
- Perform SATs in accordance with predefined SAT plans procedures and specifications including creating SAT reports upon completion.
- Manage execute and maintain all activities related to the complete electrical handover and commissioning process up to and including PSSRs.
- Liaising with existing suppliers and outsourcing partners, seeking additional partners to add value to AP and customer projects.
Plant support related - Work on a wide range of electrical equipment including electrical protection relays, low voltage and high voltage distribution systems, large induction and synchronous motors and generators.
- The provision of engineering guidance to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
- The provision of engineering input for development and maintenance of Electrical systems & equipment standards, procedures, best practices, inspection contracts, and contractor selection guidelines.
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive risk-based inspection and calibration program for all Electrical systems & equipment.
- Utilize predictive and other non-destructive inspection & test methodologies to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems. Provide electrical technical assistance to operations and maintenance departments for general trouble shooting and technical guidance.
- Conduct and provide electrical technical support during Root Cause Analysis process.
- Reviewing proposals (Technical Bid Evaluations) in terms of electrical engineering and design and preparation of Cost estimations (including construction).
- Become involved in the development of the wider AP electrical community and electrical safety reviews and provide feedback to the electrical engineering design office.
As the Electrical Engineer, you will have: - Electrical Engineering degree preferable with a chartered engineer qualification or equivalent and good experience in an industrial operation engineering position.
- To be an excellent communicator and logical technical team coordinator.
- Developing and expanding abstract ideas into practical executable projects, plans or products.
- To provide engineering evaluation & determinations, issue technical direction & guidance, and oversee Inspection & Quality Assurance initiatives for Power Systems, LV and HV Electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, repair, and test activities.
- Engineering and report writing skills.
- To thrive within a pressurized environment.
- The provision of engineering support & guidance during the construction & commissioning of the plants. Maintain accurate documentation for plant’s LV and HV electrical equipment and validate single line electrical drawings for the plant’s electrical distribution systems.
- Proven experience in electrical power engineering in a construction, commissioning and troubleshooting within the industrial gas, petrochemical or an allied industry.
- The provision of engineering in performing electrical system studies including short circuit, load flow, transient motor start, protection relay coordination, arc flash, etc., and establish appropriate protective device settings.
- Detailed technical understanding and practical knowledge of MV and LV induction & synchronous motors / generators, transformers, switchgears – including protection and control, and experience with variable speed drive and soft start systems and instrument power distribution with uninterruptible power supply systems.
- Experience associated with electrical systems of process plants in operations, planning and scheduling, engineering in project environment.
- Background in three of the following areas associated with electrical systems: project management, FEED, detailed engineering, maintenance and reliability, efficiency improvement & equipment testing.
