Job Description
The postholder will be a qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA), having overall responsibility for managing and developing the financial accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. You will be an expert in all matters relating to accounting standards and key financial controls. You will lead the production of the Annual Accounts, including being the key point of contact for external audit. You will create and lead on systems and processes to ensure the Statement of Financial Position including all control accounts are correctly maintained and reported. The post holder will be an active member of the Trust's Senior Finance Management Team, responsible for providing management, training, motivation, leadership and development to the Trust's finance team.
Key responsibilities are as follows:
- To aid the Assistant Director of Finance (Financial Accounts) with the production of the Group statutory Annual Report and Accounts.
- To aid the Assistant Director of Finance (Financial Accounts) in providing the full range of services to the Trust, including the effective and efficient provisions of Financial Accounts, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Technical Accounts, Cashier service, Banking and Financial Systems.
- To deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance (Financial Accounts) across the full range of duties during periods of absence.
- Through the Assistant Director of Finance (Financial Accounts) manage the Group's annual accounting process and timetable, ensuring the timely completion of the statutory accounts, interacting with service managers and departments and External auditors as appropriate.
- Oversee the Agreement of Balances exercise within the Trust in line with Department of Health guidance and ensure working papers are accurate and robust and that mandatory returns are completed and all deadlines met. Understanding of all issues in relation to disputes, both on the debtors and creditors. This information is used to forecast the impact on the statement of financial position and cash flow.
- Maintain effective working relationships with Internal and External Auditors, ensuring queries are dealt with in a timely manner, and ensuring that any audit recommendations are implemented.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with previous experience in a similar role within the NHS.
