An opportunity has arisen for a finance analyst to join our Accounting Operations team on a 12 month fixed term basis. The role operates in a hybrid-remote capacity, based in Darlington.
Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £33 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.

The core purpose of the role is to support the production of Accounting Operations and Tax activities with a specific focus on defined process streams. The person will be accountable for operational tasks including month-end close processes including journal preparation & creation, Scheme accounting queries and clearing of suspense account items.
You will be responsible for inputs into the sub-ledger and general ledger close process within a robust financial controls framework. You will identify areas of improvement across the processes and systems in your direct control.
You will also assist with external and internal audit requests and ad hoc investigations, supporting our Finance and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be studying towards AAT qualification and have good understanding of working with accounting operations such as banking and treasury.
Key to delivery in this role will be close collaboration with teams within Finance. Taking ownership and responsibility for identified issues and discrepancies and ensuring they reach resolution is a must. You will be organised in your approach, demonstrating strong time management skills to ensure delivery to agreed timescales. We will expect you to share your ideas with the team but also have passion for learning new ways of working.

A competitive salary (depending on experience)
We provide a Defined Contribution pension, employee contributions may range from 4% to 7% of your basic salary whilst Railpen’s contributions can range between 6% and 10.5% respectively (may differ for internal applicants)
