Mutiskilled Engineer – roles and responsibilities
The role has hands-on construction, installation, planning and co-ordinating, and other administration elements.
- Hands on construction of large reel to reel printing and coating machines (VCML) and associated sub-assemblies. This includes mechanical construction of extruded aluminium frameworks and assemblies, mechanical build of precision coating and printing heads, electrical installation of 3 phase, single phase, and 24v control circuitry through interpretation of wiring diagrams, and the installation of pneumatic systems in accordance with schematic diagrams.
- Responsible for post-build test and commisioning of the machines
- Responsible for carrying out FAT (factory acceptance tests) of the machine, often with the end-user customer present, in order to meet contractual project milestones.
- Responsible for post FAT breakdown and packing the machine and accessories ready for shipment
- Responsible for re-assembly, commission and SAT (site acceptance test) at the customer’s facilities in order to meet contractual project milestones.
- Responsible for VCML component stock management, ensuring availability of adequate stock for machine and sub-assembly construction. Involves liaison with procurement and manufacturing sections.
- Responsible for liaison with procurement to ensure the timely delivery of OEM equipment for specific projects, and other outsourced components for stock availability.
- The commission and installation of VCML machines will require travel to customer sites in both the UK and abroad.
Essential skills include;
- Use of hand tools and machine shop equipment such as band saws, pillar drills, linishers, grinders, presses etc
- An excellent eye for detail to a high level of precision
- Ability to read mechanical, pneumatic and electrical drawings
- Good mechanical and electrical fault finding and diagnostic skills
- An understanding of Method Statements and Risk Assessments
- Good general Health and Safety awareness
- A positive ‘can do’ attitude.
- Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team
- A commitment to good house-keeping
Qualifications
- A recognised electrical qualification to at least City & Guilds, BTEC or NVQ level
Terms and benefits
Salary £33,000-£38,000 p.a. based on experience
- 39-hour week. Mon-Thurs 0800-1700, Fri 0800-1300
- 23 days holiday plus bank holidays. Rising to 24 days after 5 years’ service
