Position Information

Melville High School is located on Dunghutti land in the Macleay Valley serving approximately 500 students from South West Rocks to Crescent Head with a student Aboriginal population of over 30%.

It is a comprehensive, coeducational school, with a strong focus on student growth and achievement, quality teaching, restorative practices and wellbeing.

Opportunities are provided in academic, sporting, cultural, creative and technological learning areas and programs to develop social and employment skills are a focus.

In 2021 Melville High School joined the Connected Communities Strategy which aims to improve outcomes for Aboriginal students and therefore all students.

Specific Selection Criteria

  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with mild, moderate, & severe intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disturbances, & Behaviour Difficulties.
  2. Highly developed organisational & interpersonal skills that support collegiality, teamwork, collaborative practice & feedback, positive relationships & effective communication with students, staff, parents/caregivers, the community & outside agencies.  
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop & deliver differentiated curriculum & quality assessment for learning practices to facilitate & promote student independence & everyday life skills, including self-advocacy for students with complex learning needs. 
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop Personalised Learning & Support Plans to maximise student growth, promote high expectations & ensure engagement to meet the diverse needs of students, including Aboriginal students & those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
  5. Demonstrated ability to plan for, establish & maintain orderly & workable classroom routines, with the capacity to support & engage students with complex social, wellbeing & behaviour support needs.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
