• Day to day management of the calibration laboratory on site in Eastbourne, covering calibration of products produced on site, equipment used in the production activities on site and for customer equipment calibrations.
• Lead the delivery of calibration service at EBPC, ensure compliance to necessary standards and needs met to support production output.
Responsibilities for performing calibrations:
o All types of calibrations carried out in the Edwards Electronics and Software Centre
o Ensure compliance against ISO17025 for vacuum calibration methods and to maintain this certification.
o Support any calibration-based projects for site
Responsibilities for planning calibrations & evaluating results:
o Has the responsibility for planning the work schedule of the laboratory and ensuring the required resources are available,
o for checking and signing certificates of calibrations (authorised signatory),
o and for the longer term planning to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory & the introduction of new methods.
o Responsible for the validity of calibrations
o Responsible to document calibration & calculations in such a way as to ensure consistency of application, including any non-standard calibration requests.
o Setting and review of drift and uncertainties and subsequent analysis of the impact of any change and the update of any software to account for these changes
o To maintain direct traceability to National Standards for all principal measurements.
o To assure the quality of calibrated items through replicate/duplicate testing and comparisons of recalibrations of in-house equipment, and to organise measurement audits and inter-laboratory comparisons to schedule.
o Documenting of ‘decision rule’ statements of conformity/compliance with specification if requested by a customer.
• Calibration Lab process & equipment
o Responsible to review the management system on a continuous basis to ensure that it conforms to the requirements of UKAS.
o Maintenance of records for laboratory equipment and calibration output.
o To maintain a register of laboratory equipment and to ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated at the periods defined and to set the required re-calibration periods. To provide concession for the use of equipment beyond its re-calibration date if required.
o intermediate checks on equipment
• Responsibilities for reporting opinions and interpretations: None
• Responsibilities to method modification and development of new methods: Fully responsible for developing and modifying methods.
• Managerial duties:
o Responsible to the SHEQ Manager for the day-to-day management of the laboratory and for ensuring that the laboratory practices and policies are consistent with the UKAS requirements.
o The jobholder is responsible for the consistency, accuracy and traceability of the laboratory’s work, and for the related Quality Assurance System.
o The jobholder has the necessary access to company Senior Management to ensure that the policies and resources are appropriate for an effective Quality Assurance System.
o Responsibilities for maintenance of all calibration / certification records including upkeep of internal database records.
o The approval and issue of Laboratory documentation
o Maintenance of ukas/ilac and Euramet documents
o Responsible to maintain a training matrix and ensure coverage for activities is kept.
o And any other duties in support of the quality department as required by the SHEQ Manager.
• Experience in the fields of vacuum/pressure, metrology, quality assurance and laboratory management.
• Qualification & training programmes: Degree/ HND or equivalent in a science/engineering based discipline and training in the techniques of vacuum/pressure measurement and calculations as appropriate.
• 3 years’ experience running a similar calibration laboratory
• Having previously managed a calibration laboratory certified against ISO17025 (UKAS) would give a significant advantage
• Experience in managing staff
• Experience in producing 8D reports advantageous.
• Ability to strengthen the Quality team by demonstrating strong leadership and guidance.
• Ability to delegate to others when required.
• This is a ‘hands-on’ role managing the workload across the team and supporting the team in meeting calibration deadlines
• Will require working with the operations team to define when equipment is available to calibrate
• This role serves as a key point of contact for any technical issues surrounding calibration
• The role is based in the Eastbourne Product Company, East Sussex, UK. There may be occasional need to travel to UK, European, Asian & US locations; e.g. to other Vacuum Technique sites, key suppliers and, possibly, customers.
• The Eastbourne Product Company serves all six Vacuum Technique Divisions: Scientific Vacuum, Industrial Vacuum, Semicon, Semicon Chamber, Semicon Service, Vacuum Technique Service.
