The role As an NDT R&D Engineer you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be joining the NDT Engineering Team, consisting of 14 members, which in-turn forms part of the 180-strong Welding Design and NDT department.
Day to day, you’ll be working as a part of the NDT Engineering Team focusing on the compliance of NDT R&D initiatives to improve processes, complying with the latest Health & Safety regulations and drive efficiency.
Responsibilities as an NDT R&D Engineer will also include:
- Designing, conducting, and coordinating Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) R&D projects and trials
- Adopting new NDT technology, to further enhance the departments capability and portfolio to open-up new opportunities
- Conducting statistical analysis on gathered data as part of R&D projects
- Producing technical lab reports, literature reviews, project reports, improvement strategies and business justifications to secure funding
Essential Experience of the NDT R&D Engineer
- Demonstrable experience in NDT AND/OR experienced in undertaking research activities and implementing innovation (R&D) in a engineering sector
- Possess up-to-date knowledge of NDT technologies (if coming from a NDT background)
- Skilled with producing lab reports, literature reviews, presenting and justifying proposals
- Ideally, you will be well versed in statistical data evaluation methods and experienced in relevant software for data collation and analysis (if coming from an R&D background)
This role is full time, 36 hours per week, and will be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Qualifications for the NDT R&D Engineer
- You will preferably hold ISO 9712 (PCN) / ASNT / EN4179 Level 1 or 2 qualifications
- Ideally, you will have a National Skill Level 5 or higher qualification e.g., foundation degree, degree apprenticeship, HND, BEng / BSc, MEng / MSc, in a relevant engineering discipline
Please note that this position is subject to national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this will include obtaining an SC level of security clearance)
