We have a brand new and exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Officer to join our Estates and Sustainability team in Newcastle! This is a full-time, 24-month, fixed term contact, Monday to Friday. About the job As a Sustainability Programme Officer, you will support the Net Zero & Sustainability Lead to deliver a programme of sustainability across the organisation, embedding a culture of change and reducing our impact on the environment. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of mental healthcare and the climate crisis, ideal for a person passionate about sustainability who can work across multiple teams. Key Responsibilities Manage projects within the sustainability programme that support our net zero targets and align with the UN sustainable development goals. Deputise for the NZ & Sustainability Lead as necessary including reporting on monthly progress. Co-ordinate organisation-wide data collection to monitor progress against sustainability key performance indicators and enable regular internal and external reporting. Engage, enthuse and empower colleagues to deliver more sustainable services that reduce our impact on the environment. Play an active role in promoting procedural change and sharing best practice with colleagues across the organisation (e.g. procurement, waste management, business travel). Work with our internal communications team to develop project-specific communication plans for the delivery of the sustainability programme. Assist with grant funding applications for sustainability projects. Review supply chain information to identify carbon reduction opportunities and maximise social value creation. Support achievement of external accreditations (Investors in Environment, ISO 50001/14001 etc) About you We would love to hear from you if you possess the following: Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related field. Relevant training or certifications related to sustainability and environmental management. In-depth knowledge of sustainability principles, the climate crisis, its causes, and consequences. Proven experience working across multiple teams and departments to achieve common sustainability goals. Experience in Environmental Management Systems (EMS) implementation and maintenance. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare compelling grant applications and proposals.
