Teacher of Design & Technology (part-time)

Bishop's Stortford College

Location

Hertfordshire | United Kingdom

Job description

The College is pleased to be able to recruit an experienced part-time teacher of Design & Technology for September 2024. The successful candidate will join a thriving and well-established department with excellent facilities. Design & Technology is a very popular subject at all levels in the College with pupil numbers increasing at GCSE and A-level, leading to a need to recruit an enthusiastic and well qualified teacher to our team.

The department teaches from year 5 in the Prep School to year 13 (U6th) and is accommodated in four identically equipped teaching spaces with additional shared spaces for CNC and heat treatment. The department has embraced digital design and manufacture across its schemes of work and uses 3D Printing, CNC Routing and Laser Cutting machines as well as more traditional analogue processes to realise ideas in three dimensions. Each space includes a full range of workshop tools and machines to enable students and staff to work with any material. The successful candidate will be confident to work in a variety of media but full training in specific machine operation and Health and Safety will be provided. Experience of teaching at KS3 and at GCSE or A-level in at least one of the following disciplines is essential: Product Design, Resistant Materials, Systems and Control or Graphic Products.

At GCSE the department teaches the Eduqas Product Design specification and achieves outstanding results with pupils pursuing interesting and challenging design projects. At A-Level, we teach the 3D Design Eduqas course which allows our sixth formers to engage in a fully practical course of study. Projects range from mechanically assisted arms to jewellery, furniture design, and architecture.

If you have a passion for Design & Technology and relish working with highly motivated, keen and interested students, then we would love to hear from you.

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A copy of the College’s Child Protection Policy is available on the website.

Bishop's Stortford College is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; all employees are subject to a number of pre-employment and safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check. References and an online search will be undertaken prior to interview. To this end, robust Safeguarding processes and procedures are in place to support families, pupils, staff, and volunteers. In compliance with the sharing of information guidance/best practice, any concerns are passed to designated teachers, trained in Safeguarding.
