Job description
Ensures the planning, coordination and verification of all design, prototyping and experimental activities in order to achieve the technical specification and customer approval.
Ensures that the product design and development is optimal for the application, inline with technical discussions with the client, in addition to supporting the technical and the commercial entity in securing orders.
Plans and coordinates project development activities within the area of responsibility.
Manage the collection and integration of project technical specifications and the transfer to the relevant internal entities.
Maintains control of the project development activities, updates the development plan, measures deviations and analyses the causes whilst also working to solve them. Reporting information to the relevant internal entities and the customer's technical experts.
Oversee the performance of the project FMEA activities, ensuring the implementation of the resulting actions.
In the phases following the start of production, provides coordination of the activities associated with product change requests and/or any criticalities that emerge during mass production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with, and/or control, the development of product.
- Respect project assignments and milestones, bridging customer technical and timing requirements with internal gateways.
- Liaise technically with customers and other internal functions (Program Management, Sales, Quality).
- Collection, integration and transmission of project technical specification to other internal functions.
- Maintain project progress and update project plan(s) accordingly, measuring deviations, analysing the causes and initiate resolution activities.
- Monitoring and analysis of project development costs, ensuring compliance with budget.
- Conduct design review meetings both internal & with customers and record as required.
- Contact and work with suppliers to ensure designs utilise the most efficient production methods and match the suppliers’ capability.
- Interpret technical specifications to determine the correct test procedures to ensure the product meets the required levels of safety & performance.
- To conduct vehicle testing (if required).
- To participate in FMEA activities, as necessary.
- Be willing to travel to support customer visits / tests both in the UK & overseas.
- Be willing to act as a resident engineer, where applicable, at customer facilities both in the UK and further afield.
- Adherence to industry specific quality standards (TS16949 / ISO9001).
- Provide engineering support to other areas of the business.
Experience and Education:
- Experience: Minimum of 2 - 5 years’ experience (inc. internship) preferably in the automotive industry.
- Education: Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
