Title: Night Carer
Location: TS17 Thornaby
Nearest Tube/Station: Yarm
Wage/Salary: £17.00 gross per hour from 7.00pm to 12.00am and from 6.00am to 7.00am. £50 for sleeping between 12.00am and 6.00am. £152.00 gross per night.
Driver Essential? Yes, to drive clients adapted vehicle.
Essential: Experience of working with children with physical and learning disabilities, night care experience.
Desirable: An understanding of Punjabi to improve communication with some family members. An understanding of ABI and epilepsy.
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 7.00pm to 7.00am.
Accommodation: Separate bedroom to use when on duty.

About this client/child:
Adam (9), lives at home with his Mum, Dad, Sister (1½) and grandparents. Adam is a very active and happy boy. He loves to swim, play, go out for walks, attend his SEN school, go bowling, go out for hot chocolate and loves music and dancing. Adam dislikes loud noises and places with too many people. Adam has Cerebral Palsy, Global developmental delay, and epilepsy, although this is controlled with medication. Adam can walk short distances with support and uses a buggy for going out. His speech and understanding are significantly delayed and he can often shout or scream to vocalise and has little understanding of communication directed at him.

Overview of role:
We are seeking a night carer to support Adam with his evening routine and stay at the family home through the night. The night time routine begins with a snack and milk and a massage to help relax Adam before his bedtime which is usually at 9.30pm. A carer’s bedroom will be provided. Once Adam is asleep, there will be a few light domestic tasks related to Adam. You will have access to a lounge and kitchen with facilities to make a drink, and from 12.00am to 6.00am you will be able to sleep. There is a separate bedroom provided for the night carer to use.  In the morning you may need to change Adam's bed sheets and assist him to shower, clean teeth and dress. Please note that there will be daytime training to get to know the children and family. We are looking for a night carer to cover Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. £152.00 gross per shift.

Who this job would suit:
This role would suit someone who has a good understanding of what it is like to work within a family home, with experience supporting a client during the night/ with a learning and physical disability. You’ll be flexible and willing to cover colleagues’ shifts on occasions and be open to join the family on occasional, short trips away.
