Position Information Havenlee School is on the traditional land of the Yuin Nation. It is a SSP in North Nowra and part of the Northern Shoalhaven Community of Schools. The current enrolment is 67 students. The school consists of 10 classes, pre-school to year 12 (8 IO/IS & 2 MC). The students present with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, often accompanied by secondary physical, behavioural and other disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. Aboriginal students make up approximately 38% of Havenlee School enrolments.

Specific Selection Criteria

  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students from Preschool – Year 12 with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, students with physical and sensory disabilities, challenging behaviours, complex medical and/or Mental Health needs.
  2. Capacity to manage programming and assessment requirements (across a multi-stage setting) to support student growth and wellbeing.
  3. Highly developed classroom management skills that support the needs of a diverse range of students, including Aboriginal students, students with challenging behaviours and /or complex medical needs.
  4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, SLSO, support agencies and the wider community.
  5. Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum and implement individual learning programs that maximise student engagement.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
