Introduction

The post-holder will work in partnership with service users and the wider clinical team to develop and deliver high quality, personalised care promoting recovery and independence whilst effectively managing risk

Key Result Areas:

• Promote and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment in conjunction with MDT members
• Ensure effective systems are in place to deliver a high standard of nursing care based on recognised theory and practise
• Demonstrate an understanding of and support the principles of advocacy.
• Promote and safeguard the well being of each service user by demonstrating empathy and compassion in each interaction.
• Treat service users as individuals with dignity and respect. Be aware of their values with regards to culture, religion and beliefs at all times.
• Supervise and maintain the safe custody, control and administration of medications
• Support and participate in the delivery of the CPA process within the role of Primary Nurse
• Ensure all relevant documentation is completed on a daily basis and participate in writing reports, risk assessments, care plans and reviews as required.
• Participate in the activity and therapy programme and support service users to attend.
• Communicate effectively with all internal and external professionals
• Attend professional meetings and represent the nursing team
• Ensure Hospital Policies and Procedures are adhered to at all times and best practice is demonstrated in line with professional guidance.
• Manage distressing and challenging situations as they arise and ensure resolution is effective and in line with relevant policy guidance
• Demonstrate appropriate emotional self regulation and maintain professional boundaries at all times
• Take an active role in health and safety by reporting all environmental risks identified.
• Participate in escorting patients external to the hospital
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times
• As a representative of the Hospital demonstrate a professional and courteous manner at all times

Professional:

• Act within the framework and guidance of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
• Co-ordinate the nursing team and site according to the duty rota
• Supervise junior staff, ensuring effective clinical supervision and appraisals are completed as per policy
• Act as role model offering guidance and coaching as identified
• Demonstrate own continuing professional development in line with revalidation requirements, identify areas of focus and discuss in clinical supervision and appraisal
• Be responsible for attending all in-service and external training as identified

Security:

• Be aware of the Hospitals security procedures and protocols and work within the parameters of same at all times
• Demonstrate an understanding of the need to maintain security requirements and the management of risk alongside therapeutic activities
• Participate in risk assessments and have a clear awareness of the risks each patient may present with at all times
• Participate in the role of Hospital Security Nurse including searching of the environment and patient, monitoring visits and ensuring contraband items are stored securely
• Effectively use hospital radio communication equipment as required
• Participate in monitoring use of illegal substances
• Participate in de-escalating and effectively dealing with violence and aggression
• Complete a five day training course in General Services Management of Violence and Aggression

What you will get:

• Salary: £19 per hour
• Hours of Work: £18 per hour, £22 per hour overtime. Shifts are 73.5 hours over a two-week period (3 shifts one week, 4 the next). Both days and nights are 7:45 – 8:00.
• Annual Leave: days including bank holidays
