Job description

Purpose of the Trustee Chair · To inspire the Board, Chief Executive and those within and outside of BelEve UK through the promotion of the organisation’s vision, mission and core principles

To instil the right governance, risk management and controls needed for responsible expansion of the charity towards achieving £1m+ in funding

To ensure that the charity is compliant with all legal, financial, reporting and other requirements

To work with the Board to create opportunities for growth and expansion – both financially and across the charity’s scope of work

To provide strategic leadership to BelEve UK in collaboration with the Chief Executive and the Board of Trustees

To oversee the development and delivery of the charitable aims through the strategic plan, as agreed by the Board

To advocate diversity and inclusion at all levels and uphold principles of gender equality and equity, proactively championing the rights of girls and young women

Ensuring that the Board makes clear decisions on strategy, policy, financial stewardship and risk exposure

Giving direction to policy and strategic decision-making

To Chair the Board in particular by:

Monitoring the implementation of the Board decisions

Planning the annual cycle of meetings with the Chief Executive

To monitor the performance of the Board, its members, and the Chief Executive

To develop the Board and to ensure that members are properly inducted and supported

To undertake the duties of a Board member

On behalf of the Board to supervise and appraise the Chief Executive and delegate to the Chief Executive the management of the organisation

To work directly with the Chief Executive to lead the strategic direction of the charity and oversee the implementation of the charity’s structural pillars

To dedicate sufficient time to the role of Chair as outlined in the Person Specification, ideally over a 3-year term and to commit to a three-month notice period on both sides

To represent the organisation when appropriate

Utilise personal network to connect Charity with new opportunities and individuals who would further the Charity’s causes
