An excellent opportunity within has come up for an Independent Pharmacy Prescriber within a GP surgery in Arnold. If you’re looking to make the move to Primary Care, this is the perfect opportunity!

The position is working within a small team to tackle on the day appointments – the surgery is forward thinking and you will be working with a diverse skill mix including GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Care Practitioners and Minor Illness Specialists.

You’ll be joining the surgery at an exciting time, they are currently having a full refurbishment and set of services as to ensure understanding consideration is streamlined and stays successful in the present primary care atmosphere.

What is Pharmacy  Prescriber:

A pharmacist independent prescriber may prescribe autonomously for any condition within their clinical competence. This currently excludes three controlled drugs for the treatment of addiction.

In order to qualify as an independent prescriber, you must complete a GPhC-accredited programme. On successful completion of the programme, you will receive a practice certificate in independent prescribing, making you eligible to apply for annotation on the register.

Independent Pharmacy Prescriber Job Description:

Provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and the other members of the centre’s team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition, any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.

The non-medical Nurse prescriber may, from time-to-time, be asked to undertake other reasonable duties, with appropriate training. It is important that all members of staff are prepared to undertake additional or relinquish current duties to maintain service delivery to patients. It is expected that requests from the Partners will not be unreasonably refused.

Online non-medical Nurse prescriber courses can be carried out, these are very far in between and recommend that you go with a qualification that is hands-on and practical.

Locum Meds also recommend that you choose a course which has the V300 Independent Prescribing qualification (Independent and Supplementary Non-Medical nurse prescriber) incorporated within the course, or you can study this qualification alongside Nurse Practitioner qualifications, make sure you achieve a V300 Independent Prescribing qualification as this will determine your prescribing rights as shown on the NMC website for each individual nurse.

How to become a Certified  Pharmacy Prescriber:

Pharmacists can attain two types of prescribing qualification: independent and supplementary. Independent prescribers, or non-medical nurse prescriber (NMPs), are in a position to give patients timely access to medicines and are ideally placed to optimise and individualise treatment. The NMP takes responsibility for the clinical assessment of the patient, including establishing a diagnosis and prescribing the necessary medicines. Supplementary prescribing, on the other hand, is a voluntary partnership between a doctor or dentist and a supplementary prescriber, who can prescribe medicines within an agreed patient-specific clinical management plan with the patient’s agreement [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row]
