As part of the raising Rochdale agenda to raise life ambitions for all learners in a collaborative manner, we are thrilled to share Springside Primary Special School are seeking to appoint (x2) learning mentors with a focus on Behaviour from September 2024. The successful applicants, will work alongside the leadership team, supporting a small group of learners with complex and severe learning difficulties, autism and associated sensory processing barriers to their learning, with an education, health and care plan who may demonstrate behaviours, which challenge us.
The positions are expected to start in September 2024 and are temporary for 18 months.
At Springside, we believe in supporting our learners to be independent, to enjoy every element of their lives, to achieve more than they can imagine and have a real sense of self-worth. We believe in challenging the ‘we have always done it this way’ mind-set, together as a community. As such, we welcome practitioners with a therapeutic background who will support learners to be ‘Calm enough to engage and alert enough to learn’. You will be expected, to play an active role in supporting the learners to understand the world around them, informing the strategic direction of the School.
Applicants must have a passion for meeting the holistic needs of learners with SEND, seeing all behaviour as forms of communication, using a trauma informed approach. Applicants must be motivated, resilient practitioners, with a growth mindset who place learners at the heart of what they do.
Applicants must possess GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade A* - C, or GCSE level 4-9, or a level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy or CSE Grade 1 in English and Mathematics.
Applicants must also possess or be willing to work towards a relevant NQF/QCF Level 3 qualification in supporting teaching and Learning specialist diploma or Level 3 teaching assistant/ supporting teaching and learning and be trained in relevant strategies and/or a particular learning area.
Applicants are reminded that references will not be accepted from relatives, friends or personal referees. If you have previously worked in a school one of the references must be the headteacher of your current/previous school.
If currently employed, one referee MUST be your current employer./school
If currently unemployed, one referee must be your last employer/school.
If you are at present a student or newly qualified, one of your referees must be your academic referee or a person who knows you as a helper or volunteer.
If you have previously worked with children on a paid or a voluntary basis you will need to provide a referee who can provide a reference on your suitability to work with children.
Springside is a new-build special school co-located with a mainstream primary school. Visits to the school are welcomed.
