The University of Liverpool is committed to the highest standards of care and welfare for animals used in medical research. As part of a conscientious team you will be responsible for maintaining a professional clerical, secretarial and financial service for the Biomedical Services Unit (BSU), a shared research facility (SRF) within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The BSU provides a professional and specialist service provision for all aspects of in vivo research for researchers within and external to the University of Liverpool, and you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient running of the BSU general office which is a busy administrative centre for all enquires and ordering processes. You will work in the office of the University’s main animal facility and will be required to act as an on-site point-of-contact. You will also be required to liaise with Finance and the Research Support Office to ensure that the University’s financial requirements and policies are adhered to, and assist in the co-ordination of Home Office courses which run periodically throughout the year. Diverse, demanding and busy, this is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a very professional close-knit team and take on the responsibility for the running of the entire office.

You will be expected to contribute to the successful operation of the Facility as a whole and in doing so will work alongside skilled professionals committed to finding new cures for major diseases. You will need a flexible approach to work and be able to work independently under supervision as required, following appropriate training. The BSU is one of a number of Home Office-licensed facilities at the University and the post also provides administrative support to the Head of Home Office Licensed Facilities in their role, and acts as secretary to the Home Office Research Strategy Group. You will have qualifications appropriate to the role, which may include NVQ business administration, 3 GCSEs at grade C or above (including English Language and Mathematics) or the equivalent. This appointment is subject to a health assessment and pre-employment security check. The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity.
