Visiting Music Teacher: Drummer/Percussionist

Streatham and Clapham High School

Location

Lambeth, Greater London | United Kingdom

Job description

We are seeking a skilled drummer and percussionist with first-rate teaching and communication skills to join our team of self-employed Visiting Music Teachers as soon as possible, and to play a key role in developing our pupils’ musical talents and potential. Experience of working with Senior school pupils, offering a range of genres and success in preparing students for grade examinations, GCSE and A Level, will be advantageous.

We envisage being able to offer a day’s worth of work in the first instance, depending on candidates’ availability. Additional opportunities to increase the teaching timetable and to be involved with coaching some co-curricular music may be available for the right candidates.

Music is at the heart of Streatham & Clapham High School and the department is going from strength-to-strength. A significant number of our pupils take instrumental lessons and are part of one or more co-curricular ensembles. We firmly believe that excellence in music comes from enjoyment of music-making, and this is at the heart of everything we do. We aim to provide a platform for all our musicians to perform, be that as a soloist or as a member of one of our many ensembles. As well as the dedicated Music Department, Streatham & Clapham High School has several high-quality performance spaces, including the recently built Madeleine Dring Hall. We run an array of concerts every year, with the aim of engaging pupils of all musical levels and backgrounds. We also look for opportunities for pupils to work with professional musicians, as well as performing in different venues outside the school.

Streatham & Clapham High School is an independent, academically selective school for girls, age 3-18 with over 870 pupils across the Prep and Senior Schools. The Senior School inhabits a four-acre site focused on an impressive 1930s building in a delightfully tranquil and leafy oasis of south London. The school is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the largest independent school group in the UK. It is at the forefront of education for girls and a strong voice in promoting opportunities for young women.
