Job description

The School of Science and Engineering has an international reputation for excellent teaching and topical research, particularly in addressing global challenges in energy, the environment, health care, technology, forensic science and infrastructure.

The Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science is a 10 year £10 Million project with the remit to disrupt positively the current forensic science ecosystem. As a key appointment in the £10m Leverhulme Research Centre we are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a PDRA in Risk and Decision Making within our team to work specifically with the leadership of the Scottish Police Authority Forensic Services who will be part of the supervisory team.

Work will include identifying points where decision are made about the inclusion of evidence types in investigative and evidential processes at individual and interdisciplinary levels. This will involve both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Outputs of the research are expected to include value calculators and risk analysis tools in decision making.

You will have a background in law, social science or criminology research with specific interests in bias and exploring the interface between science and law around effectiveness, communication and risk. You should have a proved track record and understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methodology and interdisciplinary research.
