Job description


The Department of History is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in modern history (post-1800), whose research focuses on either South Asia, or the Asia-Pacific, or the connections between these regions; applicants possessing knowledge of the languages and cultures of India may be preferred.

The post is offered on an open (ART) contract from September 2024.

You will have been awarded a PhD in an area of history relevant to the post and ideally hold an appropriate teaching qualification. The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for, and experience of, designing and delivering modules informed by their research interests. Applicants should seek to demonstrate how their interests and experience would contribute to one or more of our Stage One ‘World History’ modules, our existing range of Stage Three Special Subjects and our Masters programmes and options.

Academic staff in the Department are internationally renowned for their research. We are active participants in the interdisciplinary Centre for Modern Studies and the York Asia Research Network . In the Borthwick Institute for Archives , York possesses unique research collections.
