This is a well-known and highly regarded fuel and energy distribution business with an extensive operation across the UK. The business are leaders within their field and have strong ambitions to reduce carbon output and contribute to a zero-emission future. This role is part of a large finance and tax team, offering great support from the Head of Tax to progress further in your career. This role is based in Warrington on a hybrid basis.
Your new role As the Assistant Tax Manager, you will be leading on all compliance aspects of tax for the business, mainly VAT but also some wider tax matters too. Plenty of support is available and training will be provided. Your key responsibilities will include:
- To ensure the company meets its compliance obligations for Indirect and Excise Duty taxes, in particular its Registered Dealers in Controlled Oils ('RDCO'), all training will be provided for this.
- Preparation, review and submission of a number of tax returns on a monthly basis. Including VAT, RDCO, Plastic Packaging Tax, Gaming Duty and CIS.
- As the business continues to grow, take part in due diligence for acquisitions and ad hoc projects/research which may arise in order to assist the business.
- Provide advice and training (when required) for the business on new legislation and guidance from HMRC.
- Be a good communicator with sales teams' and wider stakeholders when issues, risk, or new legislation arises.
- Identify tax risks in respect of indirect taxes and duties and escalating any issues identified when required.
What you\'ll need to succeed In order to be considered for this role, you will be a qualified accountant or tax advisor, having trained at a highly regarded firm in the UK. You will have experience within indirect taxes, and be comfortable with learning new taxes on the job. You will be confident when presenting and speaking about ideas and new legislation with stakeholders, and ideally have a good knowledge of tax technology and office systems such as excel.
