Role

Child Bereavement UK helps families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies.

We support children and young people (up to the age of 25) when someone important to them has died or is not expectedto live, and parents and the wider family when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying.

We provide training to professionals in health and social care, education, and the voluntary and corporate sectors,equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families.

In 2017 Child Bereavement UK was commissioned by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde with funding from Glasgow Children’sHospital Charity to provide bereavement support for families bereaved of a baby or child, and training andsupport for hospital staff.

Child Bereavement UK is looking to recruit to the team two Bereavement Support Practitioners. The team supports theNHS Bereavement Services Team Lead in the provision and evaluation of a service that ensures families andprofessionals can access high quality bereavement support in situations where a baby or child has died or isdying, with specific responsibility for providing bereavement support in individual, couple and group settings,and assessing the needs of siblings. To contribute to the training and support of professionals whose rolesbring them into contact with bereaved families.

Applicants should have a recognised, health, social care, or counselling qualification, experience in working withparents, children and families, excellent communication skills and be passionate about supporting bereavedfamilies and those whose roles bring them into contact with these families.

This unique role offers the opportunity to listen to and work directly with children and young people with experienceof care, in an individual relationship-based advocacy role, and within participation and group activity acrossour North region.

The post-holder will be a key member of the Advocacy and Participation team, supporting young people from across theWestern Isles to ensure their rights are upheld and their voices are heard. In this role you will have theopportunity to provide independent advocacy, children’s rights, and participation opportunities for children andyoung people who are looked after, Care Experienced, or subject to formal processes and structures. The rolewill see you actively participating in child’s plan meetings, children’s hearings, and other formal processes,as well as assisting children and young people to prepare for them. In partnership with professionals, carers,and organisations, you will help to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people by keeping detailedrecords of the work you undertake, writing liaison reports, and monitoring statistics.

As a vital part of the work of Who Cares? Scotland, your role will include facilitating group opportunities for andwith children and young people across the Western Isles. This includes providing engagement and participationopportunities throughout the Who Cares? Scotland local and national network, as well as meeting with careexperienced children and young people to introduce the service in agreement with the local authority. Raisingawareness of Who Cares? Scotland and its services with children, young people, professionals, and carers youwill also be responsible for facilitating training amongst care corporate parents.

The right candidate for this post will be able to form positive relationships with children and young people and havegood interpersonal skills. You will feel confident communicating with individuals and groups, both in writingand verbally, and be able to adapt to a wide range of contexts. Secure in making effective plans, as well asevidencing your work, you can prioritise and meet deadlines. You take enjoyment from working collaborativelywith partners, believing in equal opportunities and inclusive working. Committed to children’s rights, you aresomeone who knows that all young people can make transformative change happen in their lives if given theopportunity. You can demonstrate knowledge of the current structure, developments, policy, and practice inrelation to children and young people experiencing care in Scotland. You are also flexible, given the remit ofthe role, as some evening and weekend work will be necessary, along with a full driving licence and access totransport.

While we would welcome the knowledge gathered through relevant qualifications, we are just as interested in relevantwork experience. We welcome and encourage applications from those with experience of care.

Are you an experienced Health & Social Care professional with experience of developing and delivering PositiveBehaviour Support (PBS) training based on individual PBS plans? You could be just who we’re looking for to joinour team as a Positive Behaviour Support Coach Practitioner.

This is a brand new and exciting role within our organisation which can be based in our Glasgow, Dundee or Aberdeenoffice or part of our hybrid working model where you’d work a minimum of 2 days in the Glasgow, Dundee orAberdeen office. We will also need you to be flexible to travel to other locations on occasion when needed.

The Role

You’ll work alongside our PBS Lead, playing a pivotal role in promoting and implementing person-centred strategies toenhance the quality of life for the individuals we support. By overseeing services that need PBS input, you’llconduct functional assessments, coach our support teams on PBS plans, active support and capableenvironments.

One of our strategic aims is to adopt PBS as the model which underpins all of our care delivery and this role alignswith Scotland’s legislative and policy frameworks, particularly “The Keys to Life” and “Coming Home” report.With an emphasis on person-centred planning and community integration you’ll reinforce our commitment toenhancing the quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities in Scotland.

Working with Social Work Services, this innovative and creative Falkirk service focuses on supporting young peopleaged 12 and above, who may be on the ‘edge of care’ so that they remain living with their family in their localcommunities.

Our Service works with young people and their families to enhance relationships, build on existing strengths andinterests, help build confidence and encourage new community connections. Our aim is to help all families feelsafe, confident, capable, and included. Our approach has been developed through consultation with families andpartners.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about supporting young people, families and communities, who areflexible and share our vision that collaborative working and relationship based early intervention is the bestoption for young people and families who are feeling overwhelmed or excluded.

Not afraid to test new ways of working, you will bring a fresh, caring, compassionate and collaborative approachwhich responds empathically to the needs of young people and their families. The work will include earlymornings, evenings and weekends. You will have experience of direct practice within this field of work,including child/adult protection issues as well as having experience of working with young people.

You will work within a variety of locations in the Falkirk area, including family homes, schools and communitysettings.

Families are referred to Govan Help’s family support service via several partner agencies including education, healthand social work as well as self referrals and you may work together to assess and support families needs. Yourrole will vary depending on the unmet needs of the family you are supporting. We are based in the heart of Govanand the role is delivered flexibly from our base, in families homes and in the Govan community to meet thediverse needs of the Govan families.

You will be responsible for a caseload of families who require intensive support, design and deliver group workprogrammes, and other general aspects of service delivery in relation to the communities needs. Our core hoursare Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm but there may be some occasional requirement to work flexibly in the evening or atweekends to meet the needs of the service and carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
