Position Information

Bonnyrigg Heights PS is located in Southwestern Sydney on Darug land. 

Our school has a current population of 856 students from diverse cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. Our student body is comprised of 824 students in the mainstream and 32 attending our well establish Support Unit classes.  91% of our students are LBOTE (Language Background Other Than English), with the predominant cultural backgrounds being Vietnamese, Serbian and Arabic. The school culture is one that promotes diversity in learning, inclusiveness and a strong sense of belonging with students, staff, parents and the wider community working together in partnership.

At Bonnyrigg Heights PS EAL/D support is an integral part of our whole school plan.  EAL/D teachers work shoulder to shoulder with classroom teachers and other specialist staff to assist in the programming and delivery of teaching programs and resources that support the language and literacy needs of our EAL/D students across the curriculum. In addition to providing targeted English language instruction relative to the needs of our students.

Specific Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach primary English as a Second Language or currently completing or enrolled in an approved postgraduate qualification for teaching English as a Second Language primary as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.

2. Demonstrated evidence in collaborating with staff to incorporate evidenced-based EAL/D strategies into daily classroom practice.

3. Ability to use assessment tools, ESL Scales and EAL/D Learning Progressions to assess student language development, inform programming and differentiate for student need.

4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a variety of teams and build positive relationships with all members of the school community.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
