ABOUT THE ROLE
I'm looking for a lgbtq-friendly Personal Care Assistant to help me around my home and community. I'm a 30-something gay transgender man living in Burnage with my husband. I have a number of chronic physical and mental health conditions and require support with day to day living. I am chronically ill, a full time wheelchair user and autistic. I like reading and watching crime and thriller fiction, finding new places to get good vegan / gluten free cakes and telling people interesting facts I've recently learned about whatever my current interest is (this month I've been teaching myself how to do a rubik's cube).
Help I need -
• Assistance washing and bathing
• Help getting dressed and undressed
• Preparation of food and drinks
• Phoning doctors and organising appointments
• Accompanying to and from appointments
• Laundry and light housework / cleaning
• Prompting to take medication and to monitor my health conditions
• Accompanying to the shops and / or fetching items from the shop
Ideal candidate will have some experience of providing care (formal or informal), good hygiene standards, some cooking skills, good communication, and knowledge of autism. Understanding of the lgbtq community or openness to learning how to support lgbtq people is essential. The ability to be self-directed at times is a strong bonus.
Job is open to people of all genders. Fellow disabled people with capacity for the role are encouraged to apply and all reasonable adjustments will be made.
All necessary training, equipment, and PPE will be provided. No uniform, dress code informal. Enhanced DBS required (employer to cover cost).
ABOUT THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Most of the role will be at my home in the M19 area, which has level access and off-road parking, and is convenient for public transport. There are no pets. There are no children in the household. There is no smoking on the premises. Some of the role will include traveling on public transport and attending medical settings (employer to cover expenses and provide PPE).
