About us: Priory Hospital Solihull is a mental health hospital in beautiful grounds in the picturesque village of Meriden. Situated on the outskirts of Solihull and Coventry, we provide Rehabilitation & Recovery services to 31 inpatients over three wards: - Arley Ward - 10 bedded female R&R service (HDU/Complex Care) - Elkin Ward - 10 bedded male R&R service (HDU/Complex Care) - Millison Ward - 11 bedded male R&R service (Community Facing) Patients have a primary diagnosis of a Serious Mental Illness, with additional complexities such as physical health conditions, substance misuse, and secondary mental health issues. Priory Hospital Solihull benefits from a stable and established MDT which includes the Medical team, OT, Psychology, Nurses, HCAs and Ward Managers. The hospital offers a range of assessments, treatments and interventions with a strong focus on patient empowerment, collaborative decision making and working with people in the least restrictive way. Our approach: The treatment programmes at Priory Hospital Solihull aim to optimise patients independence. We support our patients recovery by assessing their abilities and needs, developing psychological, emotional, social and occupational skills, and by addressing and minimising risk behaviours. All interventions aim to help the patient to maximise their independence, understand the effect their experiences have on themselves and others, to help them to manage the impact of internal and external triggers on their behaviour, ultimately providing hope for a fulfilling future. These interventions include individual and group Psychological Therapies such as Substance Misuse, Relapse Prevention and Well-Being. We provide holistic and patient-focussed Occupational Therapy addressing Life Skills, Kitchen Skills, Budgeting and working towards vocational goals. Our approach to care explicitly acknowledges patients as individuals, each with their own unique skills and needs. Supporting patients to identifying meaningful and achievable goals is essential for successful engagement and treatment. The Role: This vacancy is for a full-time Speciality Doctor will work alongside our established Consultant Psychiatrists to provide medical care for patients across three wards. This role will involve: Regular review of patients physical and mental health Liaison with primary and secondary care physical health providers Writing of reports for CPA meetings and discharge summaries Supporting the Consultants and DoCS in maintaining health strategy for the hospital. Clinical audit activities will be encouraged Provision of ad hoc and, if desired, scheduled medical educational sessions for the MDT A successful candidate will be expected to make good therapeutic relationships with complex mental health patients, liaise effectively with colleafues and external professionals, document accurately and manage their time efficiently. There will be consultant oversight throughout the working week and regular clinical/ managerial supervision will be provided. There are no on-call responsibilities with this role. There is strong governance structure within the hospital and region, and the successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in service and quality development activities, and to participate in governance meetings and Service Line meetings as necessary. A successful candidate will have MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. A successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the standards of the General Medical Council guidance for Continuing Professional Development and Revalidation. Prior experience working in psychiatry within the UK is preferable and experience of Core Training in Psychiatry would be considered highly desirable.
