Job description
What you will do in your working day
You will be responsible for:
- Ensure that all staff are aware of and comply with the Health and Safety Policy
- Achieve and maintain Statutory and Mandatory Compliance
Ensure all corporate policies and procedures are implemented and complied with. - Carry out audits and spot checks to confirm service delivery by both direct employees and sub-contractors is of the required quality.
- Carry out first line management duties with staff including disciplinary and employment processes.
- To oversee the day-to-day operation and strategic management of the Estate / building on behalf of the Client.
- Ensure that all hazards are identified, and that suitable and sufficient risk assessments are completed to reduce or eliminate risk
- Ensure that KPIs are achieved, and that staff are aware of their role in service delivery.
- Update the Environmental Management System for site and ensure that measures to reduce the risk to the environment are adhered to.
- Generate revenue through additional works and monitor the P & L for site.
- This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
- Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
The training you will be getting
Your training will be provided by both your Employer and Grey Seal Academy. All training is delivered face to face at the workplace either on site or videoconferencing, this includes one training session and one coaching session per month. You will have access to an online portfolio and virtual learning environment to assist your training and assessment during your programme.
During the Apprenticeship you will learn the following topics:
- Property asset management – Maintenance plans that are consistent with the strategy. Property management plans and how to make recommendations for improvement. Asset registers and sustainability.
- FM Service Delivery – Trends in FM, contract management, delivery models linked to FM.
- FM Compliance –How to analyse the way in which FM regulatory, organizational and other compliance requirements affect your responsibilities, how to carry out a risk assessment in accordance with best practice. Monitoring and reporting the extent to which FM compliance requirements are met. Corporate Social Responsibility, ethical and sustainability requirements and how to develop a business continuity plan.
- FM Management systems – How to collate data, analyse this and how to use this data to make recommendations.
- Policy implementation and change management – How to develop and monitor an FM delivery plan. How to work with a budget and set timeframes. How to identify the operational impact of changes (e.g. to service delivery or infrastructure) and their likely consequences. How to implement change project plans ethically and in a sustainable manner within budget and timescale to meet agreed requirements.
- Quality and stakeholder management in FM – How to develop and implement FM quality management operational plans and procedures that align with the FM strategy and policies. Quality management principles and standards in FM and the quality measurement techniques.
- People Management – How to manage and develop individuals and teams to achieve their FM objectives and delivery goals. Motivational techniques for individuals and teams. How to comply with HR policies and procedures applicable to FM.
- Financial and Procurement Management – How to analyse financial reports relevant to the FM function, how to develop a realistic operational plan and associated budget for an FM service including proposals for improvements to financial performance in FM. This also looks at how to manage a budget for an FM service in accordance with the agreed monitoring system and address variances within service delivery budgets. Provide FM technical contributions to procurement tender specifications and make recommendations based on an evaluation of the quality of proposals for the procurement of FM goods or an FM service in accordance with organizational policies, ethical practices and standards
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain the following qualifications and Standard:
- Level 4 Facilities Manager Standard
- Level 4 Diploma in Facilities Management
- Functional Skills in mathematics Level 2 (if applicable)
- Functional Skills in English Level 2 (if applicable)
