Job description

Cancer Care is a compassionate, dynamic and high-profile care group which covers a wide range of specialties from treatments for patients with cancer (including chemotherapy and radiotherapy) to a Regional Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. We are the Regional Primary Treatment Centre for Teenagers and Young Adults with cancer. Our inpatient services are provided in six ward areas totalling 113 beds including an Acute Oncology Service that provides care for those patients needing acute assessment and triage. There are two day case units for providing day treatments in an ambulatory setting. In addition to our onsite units, SACT is provided in outreach locations. The outpatient clinics are provided in a number of locations across the trust including joint clinics with other specialties. Cancer Care works with other peripheral cancer units at Hampshire Hospitals, Salisbury, IOW and the Channel Islands. Cancer Care also hosts the Trust wide Hospital Specialist Palliative Care and End of Life Care services. You will provide strategic, visible, professional and clinical leadership, advice, support, and consultancy to other senior clinicians across professional boundaries and organisational structures. You will be responsible for leading an experienced team of SACT clinical nurse specialists and trainees. You will be the lead for delivering on the education agenda for SACT, patient experience and delivering personalised care and support. You will play a role in delivery of regional and national cancer initiatives to the Trust cancer board - Engage directly with clinical teams in the management of SACT oncology patients, providing specialist advice, skills leadership, collaboration and consultancy. Ensuring that patients gain appropriate and timely care across organisational boundaries.- Co-ordinate the pathway of patients with SACT services acrossmulti professional teams, through treatment, follow up and palliative care. throughout the organisation- Autonomous working through provision of advanced assessment, initiation of investigations, diagnostic procedures as described in extended protocols, interpretation of results and optimising patients condition in discussion with the multidisciplinary team- Develop consistent approaches for the management of the expanding SACT nurse team, through training and education, policy and guideline development, audit, research, and implementation of evidence-based care.
