Job description

The Programme and Project Partners (PPP) model was mobilised in 2019 with the purpose of transforming major project delivery at the Sellafield nuclear site.

The partnership brings together KBR, Jacobs, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Altrad Babcock and Sellafield Ltd to deliver a 20-year pipeline of major infrastructure projects to support the decommissioning of Sellafield and to create a clean and safe environment for future generations.

In delivering its pipeline of large-scale infrastructure projects, PPP is creating opportunities for its people, supply chain, economy and communities.

KBR’s rapidly growing nuclear team of teams is working at the forefront of the UK’s nuclear space on some of the most exciting new-build, defence and decommissioning programmes.

Job Description

To lead on the collaborative development of the Social Impact Strategy & Delivery plan, setting out SMART social impact objectives that meet evidenced needs in West Cumbria and support the PPP Mission

To lead the Social Impact Team in the delivery of the PPP Social Impact Delivery Plan and to support them in developing innovative interventions that meet its objectives.

To ensure that social impact is further embedded within core PPP business decisions and processes, including relevant Collaborative Management Plans (CMP) and that the Senior Leadership Team is consulted on those plans.

To educate PPP colleagues and the supply chain on the need for, and advantages of, an ambitious Social Impact programme, demonstrate how they can effectively contribute to it and support them in doing so.

To ensure that PPP social impact objectives are addressed ambitiously within contracts and cascaded throughout the supply chain. To assure and report on contractual Social Impact delivery and increase collaborative working on Social Impact with our Key Delivery Partners (KDPs).

To maintain positive and proactive relations with our stakeholders, particularly the Head of Social Impact for Sellafield Ltd and our Client in Sellafield’s Project Delivery Directorate, but also the Local Authority and key local organisations.

To ensure that PPP Social Impact plans and activities align with the Social Impact aims of Sellafield Ltd and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

To communicate the work of the Social Impact team internally and externally, via a variety of methods, and work with the Communications Team as appropriate.

To keep up to date with relevant legislation, standards and best practice and ensure they are communicated to the organisation and reflected, as appropriate, into the work of the team.

To embed Sellafield Ltd performance measures for PPP’s social impact (including for the social impact performance of the supply chain) and report qualitative and quantitative performance via PPP’s Amplify reporting structure. To lead on the delivery of any client-assigned Key Performance Indicators.

To report, and escalate as appropriate, to the Head of Sustainability & Social Impact (the Task Manager). To report regularly to Sellafield Ltd’s Head of Development & Community.

Person Requirements

You are experienced in leading UK-based Social Impact/Social Value activities, applying and developing recognised best-practice methodologies that deal with the root causes of social issues, with potential for transformational impact on peoples’ lives.

You are committed to operate at the high standards of behaviour needed for PPP success: safety, ambition, diversity & inclusion, empowerment & energy, and trust & respect.

You can build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders at a variety of levels - including at senior leadership level, and you have the knowledge, personality and skills required to motivate those stakeholders to participate effectively in PPP Social Impact delivery.

Your preferred working style is collaborative, and you are experienced in working within a collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders from private, public and third sector organisations.

You are aware of the various social impact/value measurement systems and, ideally, have experience in implementing a social impact performance management system, featuring both qualitative and quantitative and quantitative assessments.

You are a member of Social Value UK or will commit to becoming a member and you can demonstrate understanding of their pathways.

You can demonstrate a good level of understanding of Social Return on Investment (SROI).

You can demonstrate understanding of Sellafield Ltd’s Social Impact Strategy (SiX).

You have procurement knowledge and significant experience in working with a supply chain to embed social impact processes and interventions, in maximising social impact value-add through contracting and in assuring delivery of those contractual obligations.

Ideally, you have experience of delivering social value with more than one client organisation.

Team support and wellbeing is important to you.

Due to the significant level of stakeholder engagement and coordination required, this position requires residency in West Cumbria. It is important that you understand the West Cumbrian social and economic context.
