Job description
The consultant working arrangements may change responsive to service needs and subject to formal annual job plan review. It is anticipated that there will be a change of responsibilities with further expansion in consultant establishment. This will also be linked to regular performance review and appraisal cycle with view to identifying continuing professional development needs. The new postholder will join the other neonatal consultants in doing a full attending week on the neonatal unit at 1 in 7 frequency. The neonatal attending consultant is responsible for clinical management of all admissions and in patients on the neonatal unit, supervising and teaching junior doctors and nurses, conducting daily ward rounds and handovers, regular parent communication and collaboratively engagement with maternity. It is expected that the neonatal consultant attends all deliveries less than 30 weeks gestation, high risk deliveries that meet complexity criteria for Tier 3 attendance and any other request by the neonatal, midwifery and obstetric teams. Out of hours on call rota will be 1: 7 with prospective cover but exclusive for neonatal service without any acute paediatric commitment. On call commitments include daily ward round at weekends and bank holidays. Please see attached JD for detailed main duties and responsibilities of the job role.
