Introduction

A critical role within our Design Engineering team in Barnstaple providing leadership for engineering development projects to deliver on the company strategy.

Primary purpose of the role:
• Responsible for the management of assigned product and technology development projects at TT site in Barnstaple.
• Delivery of allocated projects to committed time, quality and cost.
• Management and co-ordination of tasks through lifecycle of product development from requirements, costing, concept, proposal, design, validation, testing, and production preparation through to production hand over.
• Tracking, forecasting, and reporting project health, including risks, issues, opportunities, spend, progress, etc. of project(s).
• Day-to-day responsibility for task allocation and delegated responsibility for time management of the individuals working on the projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Creation and maintenance of project Work Breakdown Structure and project plan / schedule.
• Communication with project stakeholders both internally (the team, functional heads, senior management, etc) and externally (customer, suppliers, etc) to ensure strong co-ordination, project delivery and understanding of tasks, risk, opportunities, etc.
• Monitor and manage adherence of project(s), and people assigned to work on projects, to agreed schedule, cost and quality.
• Hold regular project team meetings to co-ordinate activities, address issues, and highlight opportunities.
• Management of changes of scope, including identification of cost / schedule impact, and liaison with customer where commercial agreement is needed.
• Co-ordinate / arrange purchase of materials and services needed by the project(s).
• Allocating tasks within the project teams and monitoring progress on those tasks.
• Forecasting of resource demand and costs to complete for allocated project(s)
• Management and co-ordination of suppliers, including externally contracted resources when required.
• Writing and reviewing documentation supporting on-going projects.
• Develop and maintain both leading and trailing performance indicators for the health (time, cost, quality) of allocated projects, including periodic reporting to company and divisional leadership.
• Encourage and support personal development of members of the project team, aligned to the needs of the business.
• Ensuring safe working practices within all activities of the team.
• Ensure that the project(s) maintain compliance with the company Quality Management System, to ensure all projects fully comply with technical and gated review processes.
• Champion and drive continuous improvement of project processes, tools and systems to enable best in class delivery of products that meet or exceed customer and business requirements for safety, quality, cost and delivery.
• Supporting New Business development through attendance at customer meetings, gaining quotation for external services, compiling proposals using input from all necessary functions, and actively seeking opportunities through existing relationships.
• Work with the Engineering Manager to optimize delivery of project(s) utilising the capability and capacity of the engineering functions of other TT Group companies.
• Champion, encourage and manage the behaviours of the project team aligned to company and TT Group policies.
• Support the Engineering Manager in development and delivery of the technology roadmap through feedback on issues and challenges faced by our customers.
• To work with the project team and other departments to achieve quality targets and objectives as defined by the Management team.

Core Requirements

• Understanding of product development in an Aerospace, Defence, and sub-sea Oil & Gas environment.
• Must be able to demonstrate project leadership in a similar technical environment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both to the team and to senior business leaders.
• Degree in relevant discipline.
• Be commercially and financially aware with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Some level of experience in a similar role is highly preferable, however training and support may be available for the right candidate.
• Someone with a track record of achieving goals.
• Enthusiastic, disciplined with high levels of initiative and self-motivation.
• Structured and logical worker with an attention to detail.
• UK Security Clearance or qualify for this to be obtained.
• IT skills within Excel, Word, MS Project (or similar) & company specific systems.

 

Desireable Skills and Experience

• Experience in the Aerospace/ Defence, Oil and Gas industry strongly preferred.
• Understanding of Test Equipment technologies and techniques.
• Significant experience within a similar technical project management role.
• Proven track record of delivering technical projects.
• Understanding of safety and design processes and standards for Aerospace and Defence.
• Project management qualification such as Prince2.
