Job description

What you will do in your working day

This is a technical role predominantly focused on using simulation software that applies the theoretical knowledge you'll gain throughout the apprenticeship, to real world problems and designs. As part of this, you will ensure that all your designs are compliant with our licence and engineering obligations. This will play a key part in meeting the needs of customers, consumers, and stakeholders in the changing energy landscape.

As a PSE Higher Apprentice, you can expect to be involved in any number of the below activities:


This role is office-based, with opportunities to visit our substations throughout the apprenticeship and post-graduation, to gain insight into our physical assets and the practicalities of operation, which will help inform your job role when designing and adapting the network.

The training you will be getting

On programme learning ranges from month 1-24 and consists of training courses, projects, learner journal and your foundation degree.

Gateway to End Point Assessment happens at month 24 of the scheme where you'll supply your evidence of:


Your end point assessment will be taken in the last 6 months (knowledge test, practical assessment, technical overview).

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will join National Grid as a Power System Engineer.

Qualifications

GCSE or equivalent 5 GCSES (or equivalent) incl. Maths and English (Grade 4 and above) Essential
A Level or equivalent 2 A-Levels incl either Maths or Physics (Grade A* - C) Desired
BTEC or equivalent Electrical & Electronic Engineering or Engineering (Grade Merit or Distinction) Desired #J-18808-Ljbffr
