Job description
What you will do in your working day
The candidate will be enrolled onto an apprenticeship programme as a software developer to build the necessary skills to develop into a full time Innovation Projects Engineer.
Key responsibilities:
- Generate and evaluate ideas for improving the ways we work
- Creating Apps and improving system automation using Microsoft 365 products
- Creation of software and firmware using App builders and Python
- Develop products using readily available low cost technologies such as Raspberry Pi’s, ESP8266 processors and Arduino systems
- 3D design and PCB design using Fusion 360
- Operating 3D printers
- Electronics assembly
- Soldering circuits and wiring sets
- General product assembly
- Prototyping and testing of new products and software
Essential competencies:
- General software experience with basic knowledge of programming
- Experience working with Microsoft applications, especially Excel
- Knowledge of office 365, SharePoint, Power Apps etc.
Desirable competencies:
- Experience with Python coding – training will be provided.
- Knowledge of Excel VB Macros would be advantageous
- Any skill in electronics or 3D design would be beneficial
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a passion for software development
- Have a willingness to learn
- Have the ability to work as part of a team and to use your own initiative
- Be self-motivated
- General software experience with basic knowledge of programming
- Knowledge of Excel VB Macros would be advantageous
- Have grade 4/C in Maths and English GCSE or functional skills equivalent

The training you will be getting
During this apprenticeship, you will follow a fully supported training programme with LearnTech, delivered through combined weekly remote classroom-based training, workplace assessment/training and online learning working towards completing the Level 3 Software Development Technician standard.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Upon completion of this apprenticeship, there may be the opportunity to apply for a full-time role, or you will be able to work as a Junior Software Development Technician or progress to higher apprenticeships.
