The ideal candidate will have CE&I experience within the Nuclear sector.

The Role
- Execution of the strategic objectives of the Senior Engineering Managers and the company.
- Capture any key learning throughout project execution and upon project completion, with a view to making improvements to future engineering delivery.
- Line management of assigned direct reports, annual appraisals, coaching, mentoring, disciplinary processes, and ongoing performance management.
- Provide direction on the project processes and procedural arrangements, ensuring these are properly communicated for consistency of approach.
- Identifying any requirement for sub-contracting / out-sourcing of specialist activities.
- Identification of skills gaps and training requirements for direct reports.
- Conduct / support effective engineering delivery audits and address any shortfalls/ improvements.
- Ensure that adequate tools and information (including applicable codes and standards) are provided for the team.
- Final technical authority (appropriate to discipline) in the event of differences of opinion.
- Continuously improve and optimise the operation / quality of the department.
- Support Senior Engineering Managers, minimising underutilization of the engineering department. Discuss and agree resource shortfalls.
- Planning and executing engineering and design activities. Ensuring projects are delivered within approved budgets and scheduled completion dates.
- Production of design quality plans and ensuring work is undertaken in accordance with relevant quality arrangements.
- Identifies resource requirements and requests resources as required.
- Reporting progress of engineering deliverables against specified work plans.
- Identify applicable legislation and ensure compliance.
- Ensure work under their supervision is consistent in the use of software tools, deliverable protocols, formats, templates, numbering, and storage.
- Support the production of technical information in tenders.
- Be the key point of contact with customer stakeholders and build collaborative relationships.
- The identification, monitoring, notification (to the Project Manager) and mitigation of technical and project risks.
- Identifying the requirements for and organising and undertaking of design reviews.
- Ideally degree with honours or level 6 equivalent or Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
- Several years’ experience working in design engineering.
- Extensive knowledge of working within a highly regulated industry (e.g. Nuclear).
- Competent in the use of CAD software / digital tools Understands and can evaluate the company management system.
- Understands and can apply design codes, standards, and procedures.
- Understands and can apply law (Acts and Regulations), codes of practice and designated standards appropriate to scope of work.
- Breadth of experience of respective discipline (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical).
- Breadth of demonstrable experience of design and detailing (appropriate to discipline) of plant and equipment.
- Understands the NEC suite of contracts, change control methodology and common project management practices.
- Demonstrable record of managing a team of multi-discipline engineers and designers (up to 30 but frequently less) in the definition, implementation, and delivery of engineering work packages.
- Commercial understanding, budgeting & cost control, reporting practices.
- Prepare and maintain schedules for activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements. Provide leadership within an engineering department and act as a custodian of resource and expertise.
