Robert Half Finance & Accounting are recruiting a new role of Assistant Accountant to join a fantastic finance function within education in Wakefield. The team are expanding and with that are looking for a keen and open-minded learner. Reporting into the Financial Manager, key duties of the Assistant Accountant will include:

• To prepare accurate and timely management reports for designated budget holders.
• Preparation and profiling of annual budgets for income, pay and non-pay expenditure.
• Ensuring the accuracy of the salary costs and budgets of the College by liaising with the HR department to continually monitor and maintain postholders details across the group establishment.
• Investigating variances of actual performance against budget, correcting where necessary and providing explanations on departures from budget.
• Attendance at and instigation of budget and other meetings as appropriate.
• The preparation of detailed revised forecasts for quarterly Finance Reviews.
• Maintain an appropriate audit trail and ensure grant income and expenditure is correctly recognised in the financial statements.
• To assist with financial analysis and longer-term forecasts.
• Actively participate in the review and development of financial systems relating to the management account's function and procedures.
• Provide finance system training to staff in other areas of the College.
• To assist with the preparation of annual accounts.
• To ensure the integrity of the financial ledger including preparation of journals, validation of data and maintenance of the General Ledger coding structure.
• Preparation of financial and statistical returns to funding bodies and other organisations.
• Course costing exercises to look at the financial viability of college provision.
