Metsä Wood UK annual turnover is c.£150m with production volume up to 500,000m³ and the UK entity employs c.400 people across four automated manufacturing and distribution sites:
> Boston, Lincolnshire (UK Head Office, 13-hectare site, c.280 staff) softwood planning and MDF processing
> Widnes, Lancashire (8-hectare site, c.80 staff) softwood planning
> King’s Lynn, Norfolk (9-hectare site, c.30 staff) manufacture of Finnjoist i-beams and timber treatment
> Grangemouth, Scotland (9-hectare site, 10 staff) distribution hub
The largest share of revenue is generated though the Merchant and DIY channel. Its Industrial segment includes door and bed manufacturers, whilst the Housebuilder sector serves some key players in the construction market
Metsä Wood UK core products consist of machined softwood, panel products and a range of specialist products such as MDF mouldings. These ranges complement the Group product sales which puts us in a unique position to serve the UK building materials distribution market
Function/Department Description
Purpose of the Position:
Supports the Purchasing Manager, Consumables Controller and operations at the Boston site across all operational areas to deliver production and distribution consumables as required.
Fully participating as a member of the site team in achievement of internal customer satisfaction, Health and Safety, compliance, technical standards, performance targets and manufacturing excellence to deliver the capability to deliver outstanding performance.
Responsibilities:
General duties
Monitor and maintain consumables and PPE inventory levels by executing periodic stock takes via physical checks and online reporting.
Maintain consumables storage and PPE areas in a neat and orderly manner.
Review production plan and deliver required consumables to production locations. Collect unused consumables and return to main inventory.
Produce labels/barcodes via the in house printing equipment as instructed.
Organise consumables for outsourced material as directed from stock or supplier purchased. Arrange couriers as required.
Assist the Consumables controller in the following duties when requested :
Assess purchasing requirements in order to get best value and consider appropriate lead times depending on production and market conditions and place purchase orders using pre agreed pricing and specifications.
Source and order bespoke PPE requirements and other ad hoc purchases as requested.
Monitor and organise banding equipment, radios and any other equipment - organise repairs as necessary.
Report quality issues and quarantine affected stock.
Continuously improve our systems & processes
Escalate challenges to the Purchasing Manager or relevant Site Leadership team member any out of the ordinary aspects which may include suppliers, higher than typical costs and issues or risks
To perform other such duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility as instructed by the Purchasing Manager or equivalent
Health & Safety
Ensure company standards and statutory regulations are complied with, within own area of control.
Ensure those working practices in relation to Health, Safety, Environment and Housekeeping are maintained, identifying and immediately action all hazards and unsafe working practices.
Lead by example as to ensure a behavioural Metsa safety culture is developed and maintained.
