Opportunity:
A great opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled, enthusiastic and motivated, newly qualified or established Consultant to join an Emergency Department (ED) team in the North of Scotland with dual-site work in both a specialised tertiary center and a district general hospital.
You'll play a key role in the continuing development of the Departments of Emergency Medicine in the region’s three acute hospitals, serving a total population of approximately 500,000 with in excess of 100,000 ED attendances per annum.

The current bed complement in one of the district hospitals is divided between General Surgery, Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, an Acute Medical Assessment Unit, a Stroke Rehabilitation Ward, and a Day Case Ward. There is also a Consultant Led Psychiatric Service. This hospital has recently been redeveloped, with modern equipment and user-friendly facilities throughout and there is a library and a Postgraduate Medical Centre with 24/7 access and videoconferencing facilities.
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made
Depending on the Consultant’s clinical commitment across both sites we expect successful applicants to participate in the on-call rotas. On-call rota will be limited to a maximum of 1: 6 on-call and 1: 6 weekend working combined. Looking for Emergency Medicine Consultants to work up to a 10PA contract on a flexible annualised basis. A detailed job plan will be negotiable upon successful application and interview.

Full range of both adult and paediatric cases, including trauma as part of the North of Scotland Major Trauma Network to providing critical care to patients being retrieved to an ICU in a tertiary receiving centre.
Emergency medicine covers a wide variety of presentations in a compact but well-equipped unit with adjacent imaging, lab diagnostics and supporting specialties, giving a Consultant the flexibility to demonstrate their wider clinical expertise.

About the Trust:
Across all sites they have a modern teaching capacity with further educational and conference facilities located in centres available to all successful candidates.
At the major trust hospital, the Emergency Department is based in the Emergency Care Centre (ECC), a modern purpose-designed facility to support integrated Unscheduled Care Service and Emergency Medicine. It includes dedicated areas for major and minor presentations, a resuscitation room, dedicated diagnostics, assessment and observation facilities, and is physically linked to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital whose Emergency Department for paediatric presentations is covered clinically by the same body of Consultants as the adult department.

Essential criteria
FRCEM or equivalent
GMC registered medical practitioner
ALS/APLS/(ATLS/ETC) Provider or Equivalent
Evidence of achievement of postgraduate medical training in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
Eligibility to work in the UK
Evidence of formal and informal teaching and training of junior medical staff and medical students, and nursing staff.
Experience of clinical audit.
Desirable Criteria
Previous NHS OR HSE Irish experience at consulant level
Specialist GMC registration
Postgraduate training
Experience in person-centred quality initiatives
