Cranleigh STEM is working with a leading provider of hydrogen fuel cell power systems to generate clean energy in support of the global energy transition.

Our clients’ scalable systems provide off-grid, zero emission power that are already being deployed for fuel processing plant, industrial systems, electric vehicle charging, and the replacement of diesel generators for mobile power applications.

They are working with global partners in the deployment of products for the Power Generation, Construction, Rail and Maritime industries, emphasising the central role of its technology in the decarbonisation of global industry.

The Company has entered a new, exciting growth phase and is scaling up its operational capacity to meet demand for our zero emission systems. We are looking for bright, enthusiastic, and industrious Engineers to help deliver the company’s long-term success.

Main Role

The role of Senior Quality Engineer will involve working as part of a cross-functional, highly motivated, dynamic, and rapidly growing team of engineers to support the next generation of clean energy solutions being developed at the company.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of our products and procedures through rigorous inspections, implementation of quality control measures, and identification of areas for improvement.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality issues, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to building high-quality products that exceed customer expectations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in engineering or quality assurance, and possess exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive mindset.

The role will include work on a wide variety of projects in a dynamic development and manufacturing environment, ensuring the necessary compliance to ISO 9001 industry standards whilst helping to support the Quality Management Systems (QMS). Key knowledge relating to the identification of issues, problem solving, root cause analysis, recommendation of solutions and the ability to create appropriate quality documentation will be required.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee testing systems and procedures to ensure they meet technical standards and creating quality and safety documentation.

Set detailed guidelines on what needs to be checked and what the quality standards are.

Update the Quality Management System (QMS) with incidents, solutions, and improvements.

Auditing systems based on ISO 9001:2015 requirements.

Determine quality metrics for all development and manufacturing procedures.

Monitoring the entire development and production cycle, performing regular tests to identify potential challenges or defects as early as possible.

Inspect product materials and both mechanical and electrical systems for defects and durability.

Identify the root cause of technical issues and recommend solutions.

Prepare reports on quality concerns and required corrective actions with supporting KPI’s (for instances quality scorecard, 8D and defect prevention measures).

Review current drawings, procedures, and quality documentation.

Set and track quality assurance goals with recommendations for improvement.

Coordinate with external quality assurance auditors and technicians to ensure legal compliance.

Work with both suppliers and internal teams to increase customer satisfaction by improving the quality of products.

Assist the change management system and other formal design procedures.

Have a good working knowledge of risk management techniques and process driven methodologies.

Skills and Experience

Degree (or equivalent), in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (ideally 2:1 or above), with an appreciable level of industrial experience in manufacturing and industrial environments.

An effective communicator, able to present appropriate, concise, and accurate information in both written and verbal formats.

Capable of progressing tasks autonomously with a minimum of supervision.

Comfortable with multi-tasking, taking the lead on prioritising activities and planning work effectively to ensure project deadlines are proactively met.

Previous work experience as a Quality Engineer or in a similar role.

Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies.

In-depth understanding of technical documentation.

Familiarity with statistical analysis. Knowledge and application of six-sigma techniques of great advantage.

Good attention to detail, with problem-solving abilities and key analytical skills.

Additional certification in Quality Assurance procedures will be of merit.

Desirable

Knowledge of industrial plant, chemical storage, and transport systems, including packaging, pipework layouts; pressure vessels, structural frameworks, mechanical enclosures, process equipment and welding and metal fabrication.

An appreciation of other engineering disciplines such as mechanisms, thermodynamics, and electrical and electronic systems.

Good experience in general manufacturing processes and welding and fabrication techniques.

Knowledge of DFMEA for risk management and DFA/DFM, for cost and quality optimisation.

Appreciation of statistics, robust design and systems engineering techniques.

Knowledge of compliance considerations, including relevant industry standards, regulatory conformance, CE marking, health and safety etc.

High levels of motivation, flexibility, and adaptability.

Working knowledge of Microsoft office systems such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.

Salary:£50,000 – £60,000 (DOE)
