Vacancy Information

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week). Part-time hours will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £23.40 - £26.13
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of appropriate relevant experience and qualifications and salary placed within the advertised scale.

Days and Hours of Work:
Working 2.5 days between Monday - Friday, 09:00-17:00
Days of working are negotiable, flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible.
To start 15th April 2024.

East Lothian Children’s Services has an exciting opportunity for a Part-Time Senior Practitioner (17.5 hours) to join the Throughcare and Aftercare Team (TAC).

The TAC Team provides a range of support to care experienced young people in their transition to independent living across East Lothian. We are looking to recruit a Senior Practitioner who has extensive and recent post qualification experience in providing a social work service to this group of young people.

The TAC Team provides a specialist and needs led service to young people with a range of complex issues. Many struggle to build and maintain healthy relationships after many years within statutory services. The young people have often experienced significant trauma and loss and face a range of challenges including homelessness, unemployment and poverty . The successful candidate should be committed to improving outcomes for young people and be motivated to go the distance to support young people to reach positive and sustainable destinations.

You will play an essential role in facilitating the return of young people to their home community, as much as possible You will receive regular support and supervision and as an essential part of the role, will have supervisory responsibility of Family Support Workers.

A current area of development is the increasing number of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children that the team work with. Experience would be beneficial but not essential.

A full current driving licence and use of a vehicle are essential for this post.

Applicants should have a sound value base, excellent communication and report writing skills and a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of children and families social work role and responsibilities.

Job Requirements

Education/Qualifications
Approved Social Work qualification.

Post qualifying award in Child Protection and Welfare or Practice Teaching or Securing Children’s Future: Good Practice in Permanence Planning and Family Placement OR a commitment to achieve the Post qualifying award within two years of appointment (supported by children’s services).

Evidence of a strong commitment to Continual Professional Development.

SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration as soon as possible and this must be achieved within six months of your start date.

Driving Licence
Full current driving licence and access to a vehicle*
