Job description
Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN/ SEND TA) Autism (ASD)/ SEMH anxiety
Here at Axis, we are searching for a caring Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN/ SEND TA) to work in a large, bustling primary school in Taunton. The school itself is very busy, and prides itself on its diversity and creativity –particularly performing arts and music! You will fit right in if you enjoy singing, dancing and painting and have a positive outlook on life! The school is within easy access by public transport and has a spacious (and free!) car park area you are welcome to use.
This role is working 1:1 with an autistic child with anxiety. They are calm and loving, but need support and reassurance. Your role will be to support them during school hours, but you will also need to be able to build and maintain a constructive rapport so that you can help them to manage their anxiety and develop independence. The child has no issues with behaviour, but is very introverted. They are currently in Y4, but during Y1 they struggled with selective mutism, however this has not happened since.
This 1-1 TA role is full-time from Monday to Friday 8.30 to 4, with pay rates starting at £80 per day depending on experiences. The role is currently until Easter, however the school are eager to offer a permanent position for someone who is right in this role as they would like the child to be settled and benefit from the consistency a committed member of staff could give them. No experience or qualifications necessary for this role, however if you have experience with someone with mental health needs (SEMH), in particular anxiety or selective mutism, that would be advantageous!
