Our client has a truly mixed animal practice based just East of Macclesfield and they are now looking for an experienced Mixed Animal Vet to join them.
Based in a small, picturesque spa town ideally nestled in the Peak District. The clinic has a classical mixed practice feel about it, with the ethos of providing a high standard of clinical care to their clients across the board. The clinic has 3 small animal consulting rooms (2 vet and 1 nurse), one dedicated operating theatre, an imaging suite (digital x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy), prep area with dental facilities and in house laboratory and there are separate cat and dog kennels. The large animal work is very varied from larger dairy farms to the smaller beef and sheep farms, plus a lot of small holdings. The work consists of routine herd health work (Easiscanner with goggles and screen) and general ambulatory work. The clinic does its own TB testing although there are 3 lay testers, shared with their nearby clinic and they also do bull and tup fertility testing. There are accredited BVD, Johnes and TB accredited vets and perform TB advisory visits for their client farmers. Many of their clients are farm assured and CHECS/MV accreditation is also encouraged. They have a busy lambing period with a lambing club for their farmers. On the equine side they undertake 1st opinion work. The team vets undertake pre-purchase examinations, portable x-ray for lameness workups, and routine surgery including castrations, and general 1st opinion emergency work. There are currently a 5FT and 3PT vets, with experience ranging from 1 year to 16 years of experience. The clinic have small animal medicine certificate holders, with another in progress. This gives a wide breath of skills and experience which enables them to support and mentor new additions. The practice is a nurse training practice and have 4 FT & 4 PT qualified nurses, with several ECC certificate holders. The role is a mix is approximately 80% small animal 20% farm (mostly beef and sheep but some dairy) and a small amount of equine. The role would primarily be based at a branch with very occasional help to a sister practice nearby. The client is open to consider both full time and part time applicants. The full-time role is based on a 40 hour week over 5 days per week, between 8:30 am – 5:30 pm. The clinic undertake their own on call (calls answered by external call centre) for both large and small animal work, with a small animal nurse on call to assist. The standard on call rota is 1 in 7 weekends (TOIL in the week following) and weekday on call spread between all the vets. Saturday morning consulting on a 1 in 7 rota, with TOIL given.
