Set in the leafy suburb of Edgbaston, close to Birmingham City centre, Priory Hospital Woodbourne is conveniently located for access to the West Midlands motorway network and with very good local public transport links.
Woodbourne hospital provides a diverse range of inpatient services. These include acute and psychiatric intensive care services for adults. A specialist adult Eating Disorder service and a private addictions service. Across seven wards, our multi-disciplinary teams deliver personalised treatment programmes to our patients and have established an excellent reputation for providing the highest standards of care.
Job Advert Role Description
You will be expected to provide clinical, professional and operational leadership to the Occupational Therapy (OT) service, working in collaboration with Therapy Services Manager to ensure Occupational Therapy services are proactive and supportive of Priory objectives. To work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues across the hospital site to support integration around patient care. And to deliver a highly specialised and advanced standard of OT assessment, treatment and management for patients.
Responsibilities:
- To ensure that own practice and service meets agreed local and national standards and clinical governance requirements, including COT Standards for Practice, Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
- To work collaboratively with other Service Leads in Occupational Therapy, carrying portfolio service responsibilities that may bridge all specialties.
- To take a lead role in the development, implementation and review of local policies and procedures required to deliver high quality, evidence based occupational therapy service.
- To be a source of knowledge and expertise regarding Occupational Therapy Services, relatives and colleagues of all disciplines both within the site.
- To manage and co-ordinate the delivery of occupational therapy services on a day to day basis.
- To be responsible for, and undertake, regular clinical audits and research that informs service improvement and delivery within occupational therapy across the service. Including, evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of occupational therapy, utilizing reliable clinical outcome measures.
- To manage the OT team and oversee the clinical supervision of all staff within the OT team through the implementation of a supervision structure of more senior / experienced staff supervising less experienced.
- To lead and participate in clinical work and to promote a high standard of expertise within the OT department, and to ensure these standards are maintained by all staff.
- To identify professional and operational issues that need to be addressed at strategic level, and to alert the Therapy Manager so as to reach appropriate agreed actions. This may include developing proposals / bids in an attempt to gain additional funding for areas of service development.
- To act as an expert resource on Occupational Therapy, providing specialist support and advice to the Occupational Therapy team, students, members of the multi-disciplinary team and professionals working in external agencies.
- To undertake specialist clinical assessments where required for the relevant service lines provided for example Sensory assessments.
- To participate in site service quality improvement initiatives including conducting investigations and Quality monitoring assurance objectives
- To lead the OT Team, ensuring that all team members are practising effectively within agreed local and national standards and competency frameworks.
- To be responsible for the allocation and prioritisation of workload for all OT staff in the team, to ensure that resources are matched efficiently and effectively to client needs. To delegate responsibilities to the staff in keeping with their grade and competency.
- To successfully implement changes in work structure and/or work patterns within the OT team, using advanced communication and change management.
- To lead the appraisal process across the whole team. In doing so, ensure that all team members are provided with, and are participating effectively in, regular appraisal sessions in line with Priories procedures.
- To be responsible for recruiting to OT staff vacancies. This will include creating advertisements, writing job descriptions and person specifications, organising and participating in shortlisting, interviewing (including chairing) and selection of applicants.
- To act as an assessor for the recruitment of staff in other teams when appropriate. To lead effective recruitment by appointing appropriately experienced staff and delivering structured induction.
- To direct and motivate staff via personal training and developmental activities.
- To oversee student placements within the OT team.
- To complete internal investigations where relevant and required.
- To attend Clinical Governance meetings and represent Occupational Therapy.
- To take responsibility for identified budget responsibilities related to role for example; the therapy activity budget.
