Job description
About Us
Exscientia is an AI-driven precision medicine company committed to discovering, designing and developing the best possible drugs in the fastest and most effective manner. Exscientia developed the first-ever functional precision oncology platform to successfully guide treatment selection and improve patient outcomes in a prospective interventional clinical study, as well as to progress AI-designed small molecules into the clinical setting. Our internal pipeline is focused on leveraging our precision medicine platform in oncology, while our partnered pipeline broadens our approach to other therapeutic areas. By pioneering a new approach to medicine creation, we believe the best ideas of science can rapidly become the best medicines for patients.
As a DMPK project leader you will represent DMPK on cross-disciplinary discovery and development project teams and will have responsibility for the overall non-clinical DMPK with project accountability from early drug discovery towards candidate drug selection and in the early clinical phases of development. The candidate will support several projects across different therapeutic areas and will lead the DMPK interactions with the full range of disciplines and functions involved: medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology etc.
Please note this is a remote hybrid role and occasional travel is required to our offices in Oxford, UK (approximately once a quarter), with flexibility to work from home the remaining time. We are a flexible working organisation and we’re willing to consider other options which would provide similar contact time with the team.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Design, commission and conduct appropriate experimental studies to support compound design, project progression and candidate selection to understand, risk mitigate and resolve project ADME related issues
- Apply an expert understanding of DMPK, including pre-clinical PK, translational PK and PK-PD, physicochemical property assays and biotransformation reactions and will be expected to provide scientific leadership and strategic direction to assigned projects
- Provide strong support to AI/ML teams to identify, generate, interpret and challenge data from which to build and improve predictive DMPK models to allow virtual screening of new compound designs
- Progress molecules with appropriate ADME and pharmacokinetic properties, through discovery stages into clinical candidate nomination and expected to demonstrate awareness of project status at all time
- Support and challenge if appropriate the interpretation of results and translation into objectives for design
- Prepare the DMPK part of internal/regulatory documents (e.g., IND, IB)
Requirements
Essential skills:
- Degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Pharmacology/Pharmacokinetics or related discipline. Higher degree preferred (MSc or PhD)
- A minimum of 5–7 years experience in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic sciences in the Biotech/Pharma industry with a proven track record of scientific achievement and project influence
- Broad understanding of relevant DMPK areas such as physicochemical properties, drug metabolising enzymes and transporters, biotransformation reactions, pharmacokinetics, IVIVc, allometry and human dose predictions
- Strong customer focus with the ability to translate data into project relevance, to anticipate and/or mitigate project challenges, and have robust discussions with key stakeholders to ensure that project, scientific and resource demands are aligned
- Bring a fresh perspective into the group and the enthusiasm to tackle new challenges and learn new skills
- Flexibility and able to work across multiple projects
Desirable skills:
- Expertise and experience in AI/ML ADME models is an advantage.
Benefits
- Work together to make a positive contribution to patients by revolutionising the pharmaceutical industry through AI-driven discovery
