College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine - Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre Full time - 35 hours per week Fixed-Term for 12 months The Opportunity: We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our team based at IGC (ECRC) for a 2 year post. Our lab studies mutations in the metabolic isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH1/2) genes and this project focusses on how these mutations re-program liver cells, in the context of biliary cancer. We are using CRISPR-edited human cells and novel transgenic models in mice to examine how these mutations affect the liver’s response to damage and explore the link between injury and metabolic re-programming. Ideally, the post holder should have some experience of cell culture, tissue processing and will be able to perform laboratory analyses of human and mouse tissue including genotyping, IHC, rt-PCR, western blotting and prepare samples for external providers (transcriptomics, metabolomics). A large proportion of the work will be based on animal experiments; a PIL is a desired but not an essential requirement for the post. Our lab is highly collaborative and works closely with the group of Dr Luke Boulter. The post holder will undertake independent work on a day-to-day basis but will receive supervision from Rachel Guest and Luke Boulter. This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.
