Job description
The Network Project Engineer is responsible for providing hands-on network engineering for a world-class enterprise network, for the installation of small to large projects, client satisfaction and project profitability throughout the installation is essential, this includes deployment projects and initiatives. The Network Project Engineer will be ensuring all equipment such as routers, switches and access points are set up correctly and ready for deployment and maintained after installation. Network design and development for future technologies will be expected. Troubleshooting and decision making both with and without team support. This Network Project Engineer will be expected to apply their knowledge of network engineering to ensure all projects and deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Certifications: CCNA, CCNP or higher certifications (CCIE and/or CISSP are highly valued).
- Project management Methodology such as Prince 2 etc.
- Hands-on network engineering experience: Proven track record in network setup and maintenance.
- Deep understanding of networking protocols: EIGRP, IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, AAA, VPN, 802.11, and QoS.
- Good knowledge of OSI or TCP/IP model: Understanding of network layers and communication.
- Experience with monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- 5+ years of Network experience to include Cisco, Palo Alto, VPN both S2S and RA and Checkpoint
- Active directory, DNS and DHCP knowledge
- Basic Linux skills
- Knowledge of VM Ware SD-Wan
- Ability to identify pathways forward and make recommendations to the business in a proactive manner.
- Industrial networking experience is a benefit.
- ITIL Certification and commitment to IT Service Management Model is a plus.
- Excellent listening and communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong customer relationship skills.
- Organized, detail oriented and self-motivated.
A Network Project Engineer plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure within an organization. Here are the key responsibilities and qualifications for this role:
- Ability to work and report on multiple priorities and/or projects simultaneously.
- Ability to provide and maintain detailed documentation on each project.
- Knowledge in advanced networking configurations
- Configuration of Windows Server Operating Systems and Layer 3 switching.
- Ability to successfully train the client on the new solution(s) implemented.
- Problem-solving abilities and ability to meet reasonable deadlines.
- Ability to build positive and collaborative relationships.
- Ability to work with little supervision and manage 3 rd Parties or in house teams.
- Design, configure, install, maintain and support corporate data center and site network environments to meet the company’s requirements for availability, performance, scalability, and security.
- Ensure designs and implementations include appropriate levels of redundancy and capabilities to support high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) requirements.
- Identify improvements and efficiencies that can be made to organizations Network Services operating model.
- Ensure all efforts are communicated and benefit the enterprise is realized.
- Review existing processes and procedures to strengthen, streamline, simplify and improve administrative systems.
- Maintain awareness of emerging network technologies and best practices, industry trends and vendor strategies. Researches and evaluates new technologies / practices for applicability to the company, performance, reliability, cost, and recommends place in company’s infrastructure strategy. Develops and executes proactive plans to ensure the timely replacement of aging equipment and the introduction of new technologies.
- Monitor and tunes performance at all layers of the network, participating in cross-functional teams and using workload analysis and other predictive tools to tune system for optimal performance. Participates in the capacity planning process
- Create and maintain an appropriate test environment as well as comprehensive network documentation to assist in application and infrastructure design efforts as well as troubleshooting. Follows change management processes for all changes introduced into the production network environment.
- Produces detailed time line for each application release and implements effective project control by monitoring the progress of the software release and reporting the status
- Ability Identify SPOF (single points of failure) within a network and provide solutions to mitigate outages
- Configure, install, and maintain all firewalls across the estate.
- Configure, install, and maintain all VPN solutions, both S2S and RA
- Provide insight from network devices to security platforms such as SIEM or XDR
- Network design for future enhancement and expansions
- Ability to troubleshoot independently in downtime or outage situations
- Ability to operate in remote locations solo to produce full connectivity for users
- Actively participate in the resolution of network or other system and application issues or outages and maintains an appropriate suite of network monitoring and alerting tools to provide proactive notification of current or potential issues or outages.
- Participate with overall IT governance, budget, and expenses for the function
- Represents the IT function at customer review meeting when appropriate
