Safety Assurance Technical Reviewer/Checker (Principal Engineer level) Signalling Projects - Eastern & Northern OUTSIDE IR35, Remote working (ad-hoc office visits), 14 month contract Job Purpose:- Review and Check Safety Assurance Documentation for Multiple Signalling Projects (UK – Northern & Eastern Regions) - Responsible for checking completeness, adequacy, consistency and technical contents of Safety Assurance Documents - Responsible for ensuring that what is written in Safety Assurance documents is accurate (text, diagrams, calculations, data etc.), complete, consistent and traceable towards the inputs- After each reviewer has reached an agreement with the author for each of their comments, the checker is responsible for the verification that there are no open points left with all the reviewers and that all agreed remarks after an author/reader cycle or a technical review have been taken into account- Responsible for checking that all of the relevant comments have been appropriately included- Ensure delivery of Safety Assurance Documentation from the Norhtern SA team is on time and to the desired quality. Main Responsibilties:- Comprehensively understand and ensure compliance to client processes and procedures including Safety Instruction and Design for Quality (DfQ)- Strategically plan and prioritise Safety Assurance activities to meet project and product approval deadlines, including the ability to respond effectively to change- Check and Validate activities of an Engineering Safety Management Lifecycle for compliance with the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment and CENELEC Standards including: Technical Check and Review of Safety Plan Ensure consistent Safety Assurance methodologies (risk acceptance criteria, safety analysis, verification and validation) defined for the project / system / product Project Hazard Analysis / Safety Risk Activities Attend periodic Safety Reviews Hazard (Log/Record) Oversight, Mitigation and Closure Technical Check and Review of safety cases / safety justification reports Support SAM, where required/requested in providing advice on Safety Assurance to project teams to avoid failure to meet their safety requirements by attending project meetings, gate reviews and supporting audits. o To comply with, undertake and promote all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures, responsibilities and activities. Experience Required: Understanding and practical application of conventional UK signalling application projects Practical Railway industry experience in safety engineering or safety assurance and systems engineering Practical understanding and application of the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment and associated procedures and application Practical understanding and application of the CENELEC Standards including BSEN50126/8/9 and associated procedures and application Demonstrable ability and history of interfacing with the UK railway industry / safety leaders in a competent professional manner, whilst maintaining safety and commercial interests
