Job description

We work to promote, enhance and protect the countryside in Leicestershire. Could you use your knowledge of the planning system to work constructively with local authorities on proposed new developments?

What will you be doing?

We’re passionate about making the countryside in Leicestershire a better place for everyone to enjoy. Our vibrant team of volunteers inspire people to care for the countryside the benefits it brings wherever they live.

Volunteering with us is a fantastic way to help us champion environmental issues such as the climate emergency, renewable energy, biodiversity and sustainable transport.

With your support we can do even more! Planning volunteers have an essential role in responding to planning applications on behalf of our charity.

Our friendly team will provide you with training and support to develop in your role. You’ll gain valuable skills and experience in the planning process for a range of different developments.

At CPRE Leicestershire we have had some great successes with responding to a wide range of applications and consultations and we are proud of this history. We are currently receiving requests from individuals and local councils/organisations and need volunteers to help keep up with an ever increasing work load.

Full training is provided and there are Trustees with significant planning experience to support you, however we are really in need of experience and knowledgeable volunteers to support the volume and complexity of requests we are currently receiving.

What are we looking for?

• Some knowledge of the countryside and environmental issues
• Previous experience in the planning sector and knowledge of the planning system are helpful in this role
• An eye for detail and an interest in investigative work
• A willingness to visit the local planning office and proposed development sites
• Happy carrying out tasks independently and as part of a team
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Access to a computer and the internet at home and be comfortable using them
• Be able to commit to volunteering regularly to suit your availability with occasional attendance at meetings
