Job description
We are currently seeking an experienced Supply Chain and Purchasing Manager to join an extremely reputable, family-run Manufacturing SME based in Birmingham, (B33). Your role as a Supply chain and Purchasing Manager is to oversee the whole supply chain and Purchasing operation. You will provide best practice procurement, supply and stock management activities of goods for resale to meet customer requirements including liaison and negotiation with suppliers, sourcing products from a global supply base and preparing, issuing and evaluating tenders. You will also be responsible to deliver cost savings and process improvements and ensuring that the company’s competitive position is maintained and enhanced at all times.
The key objective of this role is to take a complete overview of purchasing and stock. Currently the value of stock held can be significantly reduced. Stock turnaround days need to be considerably reduced and OTIF(on time in full) orders need to be substantially improved and maintained.
There are approx. 60 suppliers in the UK and a couple of core suppliers overseas. There are significant cost savings and efficiencies to be made with a complete and ongoing review of what is being purchased and when.
Main Duties:
- Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies.
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
- Oversee inventory procedures
- Discover the most cost-effective shipping modes and schedules
- Promote a culture of building excellent Supply Chain relationships built on trust, openness that enhance the company’s reputation in the market place
- Manage relationships with existing suppliers and identify new alternative suppliers
- Negotiate most advantageous commercial terms including maximising rebate agreements and early payment discounts to achieve product cost saving targets
- Working with Product Design and R&D on product rationalisation and using this where possible to negotiate improved BP.
- Raising and placing purchase orders to ensure adequate stock for product at all times.
- Maintain relevant reporting systems and define action plan. Eg. Supplier Savings reported – monthly
- Supplier Meetings recorded and shared – weekly
- Represent the Company to suppliers, customers and others in a professional and courteous manner
- Maintain supply chain inventory and records
- forecast your supply chain to improve your relationship with suppliers and ensure you’re booking the right amount of cargo to avoid unnecessary costs.
- Supply chain scheduling for efficient production
- Maximise supplier contributions through Marketing budgets, transport discounts and other funding streams available
- Liaise with suppliers to achieve supplier conformance to requirements
- Identify best routes of source, yielding improved BP and savings.
- Competitively source new/special products
Requirements
- Knowledge of MRP/ ERP systems
- Experienced on SAP would be highly advantageous
- Good demonstrated knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial understanding and cost breakdown and evidence of cost savings achieved
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, stakeholders and suppliers
- A proactive approach with regards to cost saving and efficiency opportunities
- Good interpersonal and influencing skills with proven ability to negotiate with suppliers
- Analytical, numerically astute with strong problem solving abilities.
- Ability to manage time, work to schedules and follow procedures
Benefits
Salary- £40,000- £50,000 depending on experience
Hours- Monday- Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-2pm
